With all the heated discussion over Phorm and internet tracking, it's interesting no-one has commented on the email conditions from Virgin Media regarding TiVo...

Nothing really wrong with that, if they want to target advertising that is more likely to be of interest to me then why not, if I am forced to watch a ad why not for something I have a interest in?

"The stock has been hijacked by the legal system," said BMO Capital analyst Edward Williams, who has an "outperform" rating on TiVo. "While most people are focusing on the legal battle, the stock's not trading on anything akin to the true underlying issues. But TiVo is transitioning itself to become a part of the cable service providers' system and this is really critical because it's driving their business."

"The legal stuff," added Williams, "is diverting people's attention away from this significant transformation the company is making."

So far, TiVo has entered distribution agreements with Comcast, Cox and satellite television providers, including DirecTV, as well as international cable and broadcasting companies, such as Seven Networks in Australia and New Zealand and Virgin Media in the United Kingdom. Regardless of the outcome of its legal battle, TiVo will continue to reposition itself to adapt to consumers' new television-watching habits, says analyst Mark Argento with Craig-Hallum Capital.

"They'll keep working out agreements with cable folks regardless of the" court's ruling, said Argento, who has a "buy" rating on the stock and thinks TiVo's share price "could go to twenty bucks if they get a clean win in the case. If the opposite happens, the stock could go to six. We're just waiting for the court to rule."

Hi Fixerman. When was your install? IMO TiVo needs at least a week to sort out EPG catch up.

If your install was more than a week ago then you can classify it as a problem.

I've had mine for 4 weeks and catch up works fine from the EPG

It was only on Friday last. You may be right about the EPG but why are VM saying to quite a few callers with this problem to 151 that there is a problem and it is under investigation?

Bear in mind that I cannot even go back as far as yesterday on the EPG.

Went back a week with mine so seems OK in Nottingham, however selecting a catch up programme though went straight to the general catch up programme so you have to go and find the programme (tested this on ITV and Channel Four).

Got the engineers in now installing TiVo. Older guy and a young trainee. The older guy reckons he's done about 40 installs in the last fortnight.

One thing he did say is that you CAN attach an external hard drive via usb as an expansion but anything you record to it will be encrypted in such a way that you'll only be able to watch via TiVo.

Can anyone from Virgin confirm if this is true or is he just at it?

Can you expand on that? What package were you on and what are you now? Or what did you pay and do you pay? I'm sure that's not a massive discount to some VIP customers paying over a ton a month, but for people like me, getting a £10 discount per month to take up TIVO would be quite encouraging. I assume this was given to basically take away two costs:

a) £6.50 per month additional box charge
b) £3 per month TIVO charge
= £9.50

So if you are saying you got a £10 per month discount that would be giving you back 50p...to have TIVO.... hmm...sounds a bit fishy to me. Surely a one off?

EDIT: Looks like you went through retentions to get that. If I take TIVO I'll do the same. Funny how I always have to phone retentions everytime I speak to Virgin to get anything done.

Thanks for that! You have clearly identified the problem.

The big feature of the TiVo that has been heavily advertised as the state of the art reason to move TiVo just is not working for a significant number of people.

Hi guys.

I'm hearing a lot about people who are being allowed to re-site their current V+ for free and having the monthly multi-room charge waved.

What about the people (like me) who have already have 2 V+ boxes and are having one replaced with Tivo? Do you think they would re-site my box, say to the living room? and allow me to keep the 3rd box for free?

Or am I in fantasy land?

Same as you, I have 2 V+ boxes already. I've arranged to keep both of them and have one moved to another room AND have a Tivo as well. A few days after I arranged this we got a call to say that I would not have to pay the extra £6.50 multiroom cost for keeping the 'extra' V+ box

I'm assuming this is what DF mean't when he said existing multi-room subscribers would get something a while after arranging/getting installed?
