Re: BSkyB pull Khan from Sky Box Office schedule.

Well it seems odd that the British public have no way to view their own athletes winning titles.
Perhaps the sport has priced itself out of business if Sky can't make money on it.

100% correct. We should be able to celebrate our world champions without having to pay PPV or even a subscription. It's always bugged me how the big fights featuring Brits don't tend to trickle down to terrestrial TV. SKY are terrible for holding onto their TV rights when it comes to boxing. Setanta Sports used to sell the rights of their major shows to the BBC. When David Haye beat Enzo Maccarinelli in 2008 to become the undisputed champion of the world, the full fight was shown 7 days later on BBC2.

In an ideal world SKY would offer to sell either the full fight, or extended highlights to the BBC or ITV whenever they televise a Brit in action at world level. It ain't going to happen which is sad.

I seem to remember someone posting on here that they couldn't order the Strikeforce PPV's as the events were only available via SKY.

I guess we'll just need to wait and see.

Hopefully ITV4 and ITV1 for the main event.
The original card did.

Matt Macklin vs Ghevor (WBA Middleweight eliminator)
Anthony Crolla vs Gavin Rees (British Lightweight title)
Scott Quigg vs Someone (WBA Super-Bronze Intercontintental Bantam thingy)

Then all 3 of those fell through for various reasons and they were then replaced with:

Tyson Fury vs Hasim Rahman
Gary Buckland vs Someone
Rendall Munroe's comeback

Which wasn't anywhere near as strong, but still not dreadful.
Then Rahman pulled out of the Fury fight and it suddenly is dreadful and not deserving of a PPV.

It doesn't really have anything to do with the public being turned off PPV boxing, people will still pay for the right card. It has to do with that card not being anywhere strong enough, and no where near as strong as the card that Sky Sports agreed to show on PPV.

It's no surprise they pulled it from PPV, and that they haven't been able to agree a deal to show it on normal sky sports is down to the Khan camp who think they can get more money off primetime.

I totally agree with you because when you look at it we are already paying a substantional amount for other sports and then they want 15.00 for this, its just pure greed.

I agree the replacement card wasn't as strong as the original but in my opinion Sky were absolutely right to pull it as a PPV event when the Rahman fight was cancelled. Greed on the promoter's part seems to have won out. It will be interesting to see what affect this will have on Khan's promoter's relationship with Sky in future.

Posts on the The Eastside Boxing Forum are reporting that the fight is confirmed for Primetime, I haven't seen anything official myself.

Re: BSkyB pull Khan from Sky Box Office schedule.

If Primetime get it then it will appear on channel 0 probably.
Used it a couple of times for the Froch fights as Primetime own the rights to the Super Six tournament that was created in the U.S.

They have had a few other fights on Primetime also.
Basically just acts as an on demand channel for a few hours like Wrestlemania or any other SkyBO event.

Aye. There's no doubt Sky have made the right decision.

In a way you can't blame the promoters, they were looking at a PPV pay day, and then suddenly the money that they'd obviously budgeted for disappears. But then it's also their fault for letting the card deteriorate to the level it has. Khan alone is not worthy of a PPV. But it is their job to get as much money as possible from the fight, so if primetime were willing to pay more then it's their job to go with them.

The Sun: You Khan’t have me on the cheap.

The satellite channel (Sky) offered Khan around £150,000 to broadcast his showdown on Saturday against Northern Ireland fighter Paul McCloskey at Manchester's MEN Arena.

I have no interest in boxing whatsoever but I do always watch the big fights on PPV with my mates as it makes for an excellent night. That is except when its around mine. A few times I have paid for the fight and it ends quite literally in seconds! I'm amazed how a sport with no minimum time limit actually is successful on PPV!
