Because they are both extentions of the EPG designed before the PVR came along

Before the addition of the Hard Disk, Reminders were needed so you could set the STB to change channel when your VCR switched itself on. When the Hard Disk was added to Sky and Virgin, the bits needed to run the HDD were just added to the existing code, which is why Reminders stayed.

TiVo is designed from the ground up as a PVR, and designed to handle the channel changing itself, so Reminders weren't required so are not part of the EPG

There is no reason why you can't watch a recorded programme running at the same time as the live programme (or at least within a few seconds), so that takes care of the twittering situation.

If VM add Reminders to Tivo, then that will add to the functionality, and that can't be bad in itself, even though I personally have no use for them.

I personally think that people are stuck in a slightly old mind set by hanging onto reminder functionality rather than taking advantage of the three recordable tuner functionality. Just my opinion of course.

How on earth do you find time to watch all the programs you record, there are simply not enough hours in the day.

I don't know how you worked out how many hours I watch? (I couldn't tell you off-hand). That is irrelevant anyway as we're talking TV operating procedure here. This is exactly the same wheather you watch one or twenty hours of TV per day/week/month.

Of course. Never said they couldn't/shouldn't But let's say, for example, that you want to watch BGT. Record it and start watching delayed by, say, 15 mins. You'll miss out the ads but still be able to "take part".

That's what I meant.

Assuming DVRs (and TiVo in particular) are designed in such a way to make live viewing of programming completely unnecessary is ignoring how a significant number of people watch TV.
I used to have to sit down when something was on; and this included sitting through ads. I haven't done that since getting my original Tivo in 2002.

It's a legacy feature that is no-longer necessary.

And it's an opinion which I share.

You'd have to speak to the sales line on Monday (once you get your email) but AFAIK it's straight on to your bill.

I think you can make a card payment against the account though.

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

If I get the tivo in the living room and swap the V+ box that is there for the ordinary one that is upstairs, what functionality will I lose on the V+ that will end upstairs. At the moment the V+ has the full HD package but the one upstairs hasnt.

You will lose none of the V+ functions. What package are you on?

You won't lose any functionality on the V+HD box, it will work the same as it does now.

Your tv packages may vary depending on what you have already though, i.e. Premium Sky HD etc.

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

Must admit I'm with Sky and never use reminders , I either use record or watch it as it's on, reminders aren't needed with Wishlists as i believe they pick up your keywords automatically when entering it in a wishlist.

You will be fine then as i am on the same pack and have just swapped the standard box for the TIVO box and kept the V+ BOX and all the functions are there.

p.s i would change the HD premiums to the TIVO box as that is what i did.
