Oddly enough as Virginmedia does not carry SKY News HD somehow I do think we could watch it even if we wanted.
What is the point of a HD news channel when the money could be spent elsewhere both by SKY and Virginmedia, or do you really want to see the lurid details in HD, news is news regardless of format or channel.

Why wouldn't you want your entire channel portfolio in HD ?

News is still pointless in HD which is the point that I am making which has nothing to do with other potential channels as I do not look on news as entertainment and nor do I feel the need for me to see it any clearer in HD, news is news however you dress it up.

I agree it shouldn't be a major consideration for VM to purchase this channel , however I wouldn't say pointless after all eventually the majority of channels will be HD.

Most US companies are moving channels over to HD , a question you have Sky One HD would you record something on sky 1 SD ?

I'm not sure I understand where you're coming from. Being in HD only adds more clarity to the picture & doesn't change the actual content of the program. You'll get the same benefit from a HD news channel as you would from a Movie, Sports or Nature channel. Namely the same content but with more detail.

At last someone talking sense. I'm saying it shouldn't be the top of VM shopping list , however I can see why Sky are taking all their channels HD.

Sky News HD features the news sidebar which allows you to read into more detail on the story that cannot be used with SD broadcasts. Sky Sports News use it to great effect.

I sort of understand people who hold those views.
Personally I wonder why many shows are made and broadcast in HD. BBC HD is currently showing Eggheads, that seems totally pointless to me. 11 people sitting behind tables answering or asking questions. In HD.
Sky clearly feel News in HD is an important part of their overall offer, probably because no one else in the UK currently offers it.
It isn't vital for me though.

News is News as far I am concerned, not that I watch SKY News or even the BBC News channel that often but I still feel the HD content could be better employed elsewhere.

See above it is still news, think of it along the lines of "You can put lipstick on a pig but it is still a pig"
