It is a connected device but it can't add Youtube, Lovefilm etc. They will need new software to have Tivo/Youview functionality.

I personally think it is going to be a massive success.

We were talking about current box functionality. And i've said that I'm sure Sky have something in development, but as it stands now, Sky boxes lack functionality Tivo has already and Youview will have.
You seem to have gone from someone with neutral/ballanced opinions to defending everything sky has or does.

Just defending the tosh your coming out with. TiVo doesn't have Lovefilm and didn't have Iplayer however the code was written , sky's box didn't have anytime.+ until a software update. Your basic theory seems to be that the Sky+HD box is at it's limits without support to back that up. And this is all coming from the TIVO fanboy.

Indeed, that's not to say they cannot be added at some point and to the existing HD kit by software upgrades. Personally I doubt Sky would bother with them though as they are widely available elsewhere, my TV has LoveFilm and as for YouTube! As you said connected TV's are selling like hot cakes so where's the great advantage for Sky to have it? they have a massive library of films anyway, 500 are available anytime you like and PPV is available too whenever you like.
Remember that Anytime+ wasn't available this time last year, the software was merely updated to accomodate it.
It is unique content that really gets sub's sold, not hardware, not LoveFilm and certainly not YouTube. I really hope Tivo has a wide range of unique content at it's disposal, otherwise I fear it will not be as big a success as some people think.

Very low, but I'm sure that Sky will have to rewrite the software to add apps. Obvious really.

Recommendations are being added later this year to the Sky HD planner based of viewing habits, sounds awful familiar!

If Sky didn't respond to the Tivo functionality, they would be foolish. And one thing we know is; Rupert isn't foolish.

I don't think for one moment they will go overboard adding functionality though, Joe Bloggs isn't bothered about thumbs up's or down's and definitely not if he has to pay for it.
But they will go overboard buying exclusive content because they know Joe Bloggs WILL pay for it.
In droves.

|
No.
Iplayer hasn't arrived on Sky because the BBC want iplayer to have congruency across all platforms. To offer iplayer you have to offer it within a strictly controlled environment that follows the look and control of the other iplayer services. Sky don't want to do that, they want to just throw all the content in their own interface.

BTV Vision offers a BBC Catch Up service that isn't branded as i-player, rather BBC Replay. It uses their own UI.
BT are implementing a full i-player though.
I suspect there will be some ground given by Sky and the BBC but there's probably more to it than meets the eye anyway, there always is with Sky.

No I wont pay the amount virgin are asking and I hope the majority of others do the same. I few take up the offer then virgin will have to reduce the cost or be stuck with a white elephant!
