I have been a sky customer for 11 years (virgin for 2 years phone & BB only) and did not want to move to HD as I thought the £10 a month was a con. So I waited for Tivo as virgin have got the vision but been a bit slow to implement their plans. Anyway had my Tivo box a week now (£149 to install and activate)

I wasn't posting about the odd new non VIP/triple XL person who got tivo, I agree, that happens. Perfect Choice was suggesting that only VIP didn't pay 40 install. I've come across several posts saying the standard price for those who have had tivo was 149 (unless they won one). I just happened on this one today so thought I'd post it as evidence.

To be fair, Sky have offered that service for months now.

Yes but TIVO was launched a while back , Sky have introduced these to compete with recommendations and wishlists , and while they are acceptable and useable you still need another device unlike TIVO , although Sky do have the green button REMIND ME which is a neat easy to use function which let's you set a reminder or series link for a forthcoming show.

No, I mean, I'm sure Sky had that service running before VM announced TiVo.

On TiVo, you need another device to remind you when shows you want to watch live are on since reminder functionality is MIA on TiVo (and yet available on every other PVR out there). Sure, you can record that content, but depending on what content you're recording (X-Factor, Football games etc), you then have to impose on yourself a 'media-blackout' to avoid getting spoiled about what happened in the show you had to record (if you forgot it was on, a situation which wouldn't happen with reminders).
I doubt if Sky have reason to be worried, you can only get TiVo within 53% of the UK and even the majority of those within the cable network are still waiting for an installation date. More importantly, Sky own an increasing amount of content rights and use that to their advantage in any way possible - hence the pathetic restriction on not allowing Sky content to be viewed in the mini-TV window when using TiVo's EPG and the absence of certain Sky HD content on VM.

Re: TiVo
Any good business should be worried about competition and TIVO is a good product , as ive stated before whether the £3.00 charge could stop the masses of VM subscriber base taking TIVO who knows , maybe as said on here there maybe a free TIVO option.

Very doubtful it will be free as they need to make a profit.

Can't see how VM will have all there subscriber base in the next few years on TIVO then unless software will be downloaded to VHD boxes, I can't see to many customers liking a £3.00 charge enforced on them.
