Why can't these companies like tescos ,or indeed any company that has a need for large numbers of unskilled workers work a lot closer with the local job centers .when a situation such as with tescos in the OP and they want for example 50 workers to stack shelves or work in a warehouse just take them from the local unemployed .The job center would get in touch with the first 50 long term unemployed and tell them to report for work at the companies convenience or the benefits stop immediately

They do advertise these jobs at the local job centre if they can.

I sometimes wonder Arthur how you manage to live in such a mixed area as Hounslow, a rather, err, multicultural borough of the largest city in Europe, and hold views more often seen in small towns.

Reminds me of the last time I was dragged into a discussion with my grand mother, her confidently assuring me Polish claim all their taxes back when they go back home and stubbornly and vehemently refusing to accept that they claim some taxes back because they haven't completed the full tax year so were overtaxed as PAYE assumes this and anyone on PAYE that leaves the UK part way through a tax year does the same.

She has, however, spent all her life living in semi-rural Warwickshire where the only non-white faces are behind corner shop counters.

Go figure.

OK I'm going to make an observation about Arthur's posts.

No one is forced to read them.

No one needs to believe them.

No one needs to reply to them.

So ergo why does so many of the usual relatively sane suspects actually do all of the above?

I actually try very hard not get involved in Arthur's world except to moderate.If I wasn't a mod I would be doing the same.

Why can't the usual suspects stop playing Arthur's game?

Because silence/lack of reply would imply (imho) acceptance/acceptability of the whinging carp he posts, which then encourages those of a similar bent to carry on regardless.

Being entirely logical people of a similar bent would carry on regardless of how much evidence were put in front of them. Irrefutable evidence could be inserted into every bodily orifice and would still be completely disbelieved. Ignorance of the facts and transposition of opinion into them is how such a bent is arrived at in the first place.

I have a member of staff who is leaving at the end of the month after working here for 20 years.

She is leaving so her husband can claim means tested benefits.

I think Hugh's point is not to change the opinion of the the OP, but to inform (and reassure) those who view the thread that other views exist.

I joined this forum, As you are allowed to use free speech and air youir views, I have been on this planet for 59 years, Long before some of you were out of nappies.

I have been through the hard times, l left school at 15 and was told by my parents, go and get a job, which l did and have only been unemployed three times and l was sick of it, l have worked in all sorts of jobs, BUT then you end up getting up getting married and starting a family, YOU have to find work that will support you and your family, You quite often work in a supermarket to supplement your wages, as you cannot earn enough.

I am not lazy, but it gets my goat when people say l rant, l rant as l have been there, and got the tee shirt, nowadays the Jobcentres have to be changed so that the companies that have to pay a decent rate of pay,.

And for comments like STFU, is very typical of the people that haven't seen life.
