I understand that; it's a shame the person who accused you of 'ranting' on another thread doesn't!

And a dynamic EPG at that which maybe involves having a team of staff on hand for updates.

It's for enhanced EPG Data (guide, IMDB type info) and for ongoing development of the software. It's the same charge TiVo owners in the states have, just cheeper.

The charge that over 200,000 people have stopped paying in the last quarter.

Are the Australian and New Zealand Tivo services watered down versions as they don't charge any ongoing subscriptions.

Yep it's free on the net but that doen't mean you can just go scraping it. Also it's not actually IMDB's data TiVo use TMS's (Tribune Media Services).

My guess is at some point VM will swallow it, until then it's on your bill.

It was a major shock to me that TiVo has not got a dynamic epg, especially as Freeview plus has had it for years.

Thanks for trying to explain, but to be honest, that doesn't make sense. "If you have all 3 tuners buffering"... buffering what? Which channels have they decided to buffer?

What you've described is sort of what V+ already does with its 2+1 tuners. Yet I've read earlier in this thread that the 3 tuner buffering is an advantage over V+. How?

Then you can re-wind, pause and skip forward up to live. So, is that "buffering"?

If so, what does buffering on all 3 tuners actually mean? If something is being recorded, then presumably the tuner flips channel just before the program starts and records until approx the end of the program. No buffering there.

So what is 3 tuner buffering? Do the non-active tuners (perhaps all 3 if the box is "off" and nothing is being watched) arbitrarily decide to buffer different channels? Do they only buffer channels that are due to have something recorded soon?

It all seems a bit odd.

Boz
On V+ one tuner will generally always switch channel with you.
On Tivo the tuners stick on channels, and the one used least recently switches.

So if you watch say BBC 1, Sky sports 1, Discovery then Sky 1 it'll work something like this:

Tuner 1: BBC 1
Tuner 2: Sky Sports 1
Tuner 3: Discovery
Tuner 1: Sky 1

At which point if you switch back to Sky Sports 1 or discovery it'd just switch to the tuner already on the channel, so you can access the buffers for them.

(Obviously until the 3rd tuner is activated it'll just do that with 2 tuners rather than 3)

Ah, I think I get what you mean. It buffers up to 3 tuners as you flip channels. So from an initial state, turn on channel 101 and tuner 1 starts buffering. Flip to channel 102 and tuner 2 starts buffering. Flip to 103 and tuner 3 starts buffering. Flip to 104 and tuner 1 resets buffer and starts buffering on 104.

So if at that point a program needs recording, does it really nag you that it's going to stop buffering on 102 and 103?!? That sounds very annoying. It should just record.

Update: as Don just clarified, this seems to be right. But still would like the nag aspect clarified.

Hi all, I live in Sutton, Surrey and had no call yet about the TiVo raffle. Does anyone know if my area has been called yet?
Thanks

Re: TiVo

It seems like we are picking VM bill up for TIVO via the 3.00 charge, in a similar way to the Sky plus charge before it was scrapped.
