V+ HD/TV Drive rollout vs TiVo rollout

  • V+ HD/TV Drive released in ex-NTL areas.
  • I call NTL.
  • I book an appointment.
  • Installer comes around.
  • Installer completes installation.
  • Done.

----------------------

  • TiVo Registration form goes live on VM web site on December 1st 2010.
  • I register.
  • 2 lottery's and 3 months later......
  • No phone call.
  • No lottery ticket.
  • No TiVo
  • No official confirmation on the VM web site about pricing for existing customers.
  • No idea of when I'll get one
  • No idea of if I'll still want one by the time VM phone me.
  • No apparent consistency in how TiVo is being rolled out, and to who.

----------------------

Why the difference in the roll-out? I know TiVo is a step above ye old TV Drive, but still. Granted, the TV Drive was 'around' already, on the ex-TW network, but still....the ease of getting one of them compared to TiVo is striking.

What was the rollout of the TV Drive like on ex-TW? Could you just phone them up or did ex-TW customers have to register online?

The initial excitement of TiVo is starting to wear off for me, especially when reading about bugs, performance issues, random reboots, unfiltered wishlists etc etc. Money for people is tight and VM can't expect customers to put aside £150 for weeks on end, ready to spend on a moment's notice or phone call from VM.

Right, moan over.

Re: V+ HD/TV Drive rollout vs TiVo rollout

The reason its different is because TiVo hasn't been released yet.

That roll-out was done by region, and your area was fairly early.

There again, you didn't have it that easy

Re: V+ HD/TV Drive rollout vs TiVo rollout

I know this thread about PVR rollout but in a couple of years TiVo will be the only enabled PVR box for new customers and the replacement box for faulty V+ boxes probably!

LOL, very true!

Still....in the end....it was nice for me to ring up and say 'can I make an appointment for the new box to be fitted?'

Re: V+ HD/TV Drive rollout vs TiVo rollout

As I'm sure you'll be able to do with TiVo once it's on general release to all customers.

You will be able to that once TiVo is on full release.

Aren't VM customers supposed to get it before then? Or at least, get the call before then?

That's different though. You were talking about being able to "ring up and say 'can I make an appointment for the new box to be fitted?'", which you'll be able to do when it's on general release to all customers. As it's currently on limited release that's not an option.

Re: V+ HD/TV Drive rollout vs TiVo rollout

The 'V+' was already established tech, it was just a rebranded Telewest TV Drive after the merger and already in thousands of homes

It was a lot more than rebranding. Many changes were needed to make it work on the NTL networks. For example, it couldn't tune to the frequencies used on the Bromley network.

Doesn't that strength the argument as to why the TiVo rollout is different to the TVDrive/V+ one though? Or is that what you meant?
