V+ Goes Really slow at night time
hi after 2300 my v+ box seems to go really slow.
Say if your watching something that you got on your V+ and you fast forward or rewind it seems to just carry on.
Then if your watching TV and want to change channel you have to wait like over 30sec And what ever i tryed to do it takes ages to do it.
Ive tryed restarting and it Carry's on doing it. During the day i have no problem with it.
Just wanted to see if it happens to other people's?

I have note that it take up-to 3 hours for my box to work again.

Re: V+ Goes Really slow at night time
This usually kicks in for me just after midnight, inevitably as I'm trying to FFW past some adds on a recording. Extremely frustrating and a major annoyance of the V+. I'm just hoping the TiVo won't have the same bug, if I'm ever allowed to upgrade to that.

Re: V+ Goes Really slow at night time
I have the same problem. Is there a cure??? I must admit, I`m very disappointed with V+, I returned from a 2 week holiday to find 14 failed recordings, virgins advice, format the drive.
If things don`t improve, I`m off to sky.

Yeah, I hate that too. It's 12 til 1 now, but before the clocks went back it was 1 til 2. Usually lasts for around 30 minutes for me, but sometimes longer.
I wish Virgin would move the update time to something like 4am. I'm sure lots of people are still watching recordings around midnight, and it's annoying.

Re: V+ Goes Really slow at night time
Hi
Exactly the same problem here and has been ever since I got the V+ box. Surely (as Paranoimia suggests) 3am or 4am would be less likely to inconvenience V+ customers!
The update can cause other problems too. A few days ago I watched as an update caused 3 reboots, one immediately after the other. I was less than impressed with the recording I was making at the time which got split into 3 sections.
Another bugbear of mine is the EPG. In general I think it is fine, but I still find it hard to understand why all this high tec wizardry can't ensure that my recordings actually start and end at the correct times - something Video Plus managed to do over 20 years ago!
I wonder if the new Tivo system will address these problems? Will Virgin Media ever release a V+ Box with a DVD drive so that archiving can be done faster than real time? Does Virgin Media care about it's customer frustrations?
(Sorry Rant over)
Big Al

Yeah it sucks big time. Due to rubbish working patterns, my main viewing is now between 9pm to 4am. I've long given up trying to navigate catch up TV between 12:30 am to 2:00 am because of ridiculous lag. In fact recordings with adverts can be real tricky to navigate too. Far too often I've tried to skip the adverts only to fast forward by about 15 minutes. When you try to rewind you end up going way further back than you intended.
This is not service I expect to receive when paying almost £100.00 per month for my services.
"Virgin TV On Demand is a whole new way to watch TV. With no start times and no schedule, you say what's on and when." Not really true. If I do decide to give on demand a try between 12:30am to 2:00am I often get a message advising I should try again later due to high demand in my area. I live in a small isolated town with no more than 9000 residents. There's no way my area is too busy.

Re: V+ Goes Really slow at night time
It also happens on my V+ after midnight usually the box becomes very unresponsive when pressing the remote it takes ages to respond i used to think it was the remote! and therefore ended up pressing the keypad several times then 10 seconds later it went mad catching up. Now obviously i know its the updates causing the problem, embarassing if you have mates around and they have to sit and wait for the response with you especially if they have sky not really a good advert for the V+,myself well i am used to it by now piy they cannot fix it though.

Re: V+ Goes Really slow at night time
Its the EPG update causing the problem i've been led to believe. This doesn't happen on the TiVo box I suspect.

Lol this was reported in beta, they've
had 4 years to fix it. All they hsve to do is change the update to 4am instead . That would do for most prople. But VM never bothered fixing it.

I read from someone seemingly far more technically minded than me that V+ has to update at 0000 GMT/0100 BST due to the specification of DVB and there isn't much that can be done to change the time to, let's say 0400. I did find that explaination a bit odd though as the V Box I had updated at 0600 (which if not in standby invariably had to be rebooted as it locked). I read Tivo dosen't rely on the DVB specification for EPG information and therefore dosen't have this constraint although reading the forums it can lag a bit too when updating throughout the day, that's maybe a teething problem though.
It is a bit poor but I have learned not to even try watching a recording at 0000 now, or at least if I do not to be tempted into fast forwarding!
