Re: TiVo
Hi everyone.
I'm new here but have been watching this forum for a while. Dont know why i haven't joined before.
The reason ive posted is because ive just had an engineer out to fix my V+ box again (which is why i want TIVO). He's told me not to bother getting TIVO for a least six months because they're going to release a new box that they're working on at the moment.
He said the boxes that are out now are "exprimental ones" so they can iron out the flaws. He even said that thats why they haven't turned one of the tuners on because they don't know if it will work on all the boxes.
I dont know if he was talking rubbish or not but he was talking a lot of technical mubo jumbo.

Its not just customers, even VM staff can have a hard time figuring out what on earth india has managed to do. This time it was a £10 late payment fee, despite being on direct debit.
We once got a bright red "FINAL REMINDER" from Telewest, for -£0.07. Yeah, they owed us 7p and really wanted to tell us urgently.

But they are planning on rolling out Tivo software to some of the other, non dedicated STB's arent they? He may have gotten his wires crossed.

That's what happens when the company you are relying on to market and manage the product in one country (in our case BSkyB) is developing a competitor.
The reason Tivo failed in this country is that it was badly marketed. Whether that was a deliberate act on the part of Sky, I'll leave up to you to decide.

It's also worth pointing out the old TiVo was a 2 box solution, a bit like Google TV, not very handy (even I couldn't be bothered with that) where VM TiVo is just the one box.

So it was nothing to do with its expense, or desirability then? It's all just Sky's fault?

So was it's competitor at the time (a VCR).
Sky+ was the first integrated PVR in this country, a year after TiVo was first released.

Re: TiVo
TiVO v1 in the UK was:
*Expensive
*Badly marketed
*Screwed over by Sky
Everyone I demonstrated one to thought it was fantastic. If once they'd found out that Sky were trying to do them over they'd released a twin tuner DVB-T version it would have been a different story. TiVO could have bern more popular in the UK than it is in the states.
To be honest, if they released a Freeview or Freesat TiVO I'd pay £400 for it in a heartbeat.

In fact it's as soon as you book your installation, in advance (which is what Cozzy has already impled)....
I've already paid for mine last Thursday.... even though I don't get my hands on mine until Saturday 5th March

Based on events so far it would not surprise me one bit if all of that is true.
