I don't really see your point.
Everyone is fixated on cost but fail to realise that the TiVo is very different to any other PVR box around and if you actually order one you will all being eating humble pie and saying that it is worth every penny.

But if you feel that it is to much of a price to pay then why are you all here just vote with your feet and walk away even if you get a call asking you if you want to order one as the will be others more than happy to take your place.

My TiVo just didn't impress people I showed it to - you had to get into the mindset of not watching live tv any more. People just couldn't grasp why you would want to do that.

I wouldn't say Sky+ was basic - it just gave you the main portion of the PVR experience, and left out the complicated stuff to appeal to the lowest common denominator. Was there not a time Sky+ could not record on both tuners and watch a recording because Sky thought it was too much for people to grasp? :-)

You are trying to say it's only for geeks, but 1million V+ owners show it isn't.

Where did I say PVR's are only for geeks? I said TiVo (in 2000 when it was released), was a geek's niche. I said nothing about now, or anything about V+ for that matter, so there's no need to put words in my mouth.

1m V+ owners proves nothing about people's opinion of TiVo. It proves 1m people wanted a V+ box on the terms they were offered one. Nothing more.

Re: TiVo

Masque who is saying they aren't going to order one , I'm saying many lower tier subscribers won't make jump to XL and pay another 3.00 for TIVO IMHO.

It proves PVR's are not niche products, but wanted and used by many.

TiVo is the king of PVR's as I'm sure you already know

Im on xl and wont be making the jump yet,Personally think price is a tad extreme and the £3 per month is like a step back in time.I registered interest but at time never imagined these prices

VM can, yes. This is just pre regs.
but if you ask the 1 million V+ customers would they pay £149 and £3 a month (likely to rise year on year as all things do) for the ability to record and playback later i suspect a large proportion would say "why should I , I currently do that for free and am happy"

people are forgetting that any charge WILL increase year on year .. everything always does ... nothing ever decreases in price unless due to depreciation and that is a fact of life sadly

Re: TiVo

Can i just say that up until a few years ago I thought that all the new tech was a waste of time and that I was happy with just the basic tech. But now I have to say that with 2 kids and another on the way I have to say that I want the best and TIVO will help a lot in regards to what we want to watch and record.
I would like to win one through the raffle and also I would pay for one as the kids are growing up all their viewing habits change so having a box that will be able to suggest thing based on viewing habits is a must. My view may cause a few posts on here but i have to say that it is my view ( also I have 50MB BB as we stream the i-player through the house ) so the ability to change the boxes that you are viewing on ( when available ) will be a necessity.

Rant over

nobody should make adverse comments about your post or your opinions ... there is nothing wrong with what you have expressed

the old saying springs to mind .. 'you get what you pay for' and that just about holds true on most new high tech stuff ... though you may argue with Intels CPU pricing with that one LOL

if you want 2 tivos then go for them and dont let anyone sway you ... i just have this nagging doubt about VM holding the prices down after a year or two ... lets face it there is money to be made out of tivo and VM need money

Re: TiVo

The interesting thing is that vm state they want to move everyone eventually over to tivo,They cant force people to pay £149 for tivo and they cant also tell people they have to pay a extra £3 to use there box either.People are likely to leave in droves.Fair enough its a new product and it is your choice to have it straight away at a cost but i think the £3 per month is a big mistake on vm`s part,I am included in the offical forthcoming raffle and if i win one great. But after twelve month`s can i go back to a V+Hd box because i wont pay £3 per month to continue to use it?

from comments earlier ... NO .. the box would be downgraded to a V HD standard box with no recording facilities and a single tuner unless you continue the tivo sub
