Sorry I meant NOT.

I'm trying to find out if I need Virgin to take a look at my broadband settings.

Re: Is Virgin's new P2P policy ...

Not what?

Do you mean "Is Virgin's new (?) P2P poilcy not the reason why Black Ops is not running properly for me? "

Or do you mean something completely different that only you know of?

Re: Is Virgin's new P2P policy ...

I kinda thought it wasn't but on the Black Ops forum they reckon it's my internet settings and my ISP is blocking ports

Re: Is Virgin's new P2P policy ...

it wont be Virgin blocking ports because they dont do that anyway, they only throttle (reduce) the speed on ports used for p2p stuff and they specifically say that gaming isnt affected.

It is more likely that it isnt getting through your router properly so I would take a look at your port forwarding if I were you.

Re: Is Virgin's new P2P policy ...

I've put the PS3 in DMZ, which as I understand it means all ports are open(?)

Re: Is Virgin's new P2P policy ...

I thought it was widely acknowledged that online Black Ops for the PS3 was pretty bad so I doubt it is your Internet connection. Just Google Black Ops PS3 issues.

I play on the 360 and in the main the game plays fine.

Re: Is Virgin's new P2P policy ...

Yeah, trust me, I know how bad it is. But some people are insisting they are having no problems so I'm just wondering if it could be something some ISP's are doing.

Re: Is Virgin's new P2P policy ...

Virgin don't block Ports. NTL blocked some ports that are commonly used by Windows for various services, but the PS3 should be ignoring these, otherwise it's likely the PS3 would not work well with any PCs the may have on the same network.

I have my own theory on this, in fact several theories.

1. The PS3 Black Ops game servers/port sucks butt, and as yet is still broken, and nobody is willing to take ownership of the problem.

2. The game just can't for what ever reason deal with certain internet connections, ie high jitter.

3. Sony wont tip up enough dosh to get the same level of support that Microsoft do.

Re: Is Virgin's new P2P policy ...

Okay, thanks.

I kinda know it's not my broadband but some people are adamant it's gotta be.

Why do Americans think we don't have fast broadband available?

Didn't get a reply after posting this

so ur going to blame sony for activisions game? for activision giving a 3rd party company the servers? for sony not putting money up for something that will make them no money what so ever? Look if we still cant get in game chat i dont think sony give 2 s***s about taking servers form money grabbing *******s.
