I have been with Virgin(NTL) since 2002, I still pay more than their new customers for phone and broadband bundle(well they offered me a free M TV service, I didn't know why I accepted it, it is not more than free view channels at all).
BT offers £16 for 20M broadband and unlimited anytime call including 0845, 0870 numbers free calls, plus £10 line rental, £26 sounds a very good deal, specially the phone package is so attractive. I tried to talk to virgin's customer service about the BT offer, I was told they couldn't do anything other than increasing my price to have the bigger bundle, if I wanted to go I could go then. what can I say? they might be right, it is time to leave now.
If you're out of contract, call and follow the routing through to THINKING OF LEAVING Virgin Media, tell them your beef and you'll probably get a nice surprise...

My bill was £59 a month a year ago and it was reduced to around £47 with no loss/ reduction of any services... 0845/0870 calls can be added in, routinely now.

If you're lucky enough to be in an area that actually gets 20MB BB from BT, I'd go with BT. I'm not, so I won't.

Re: Virgin media price increase

my home phone is L package and i pay extra $3.50 for evening and weekend calls, got my e bill other noticed my call charges were about $18.00 and all made in the day time ! so i rang virgin ( thinking of leaving us ) got through and explained my phone bill and asked if i could upgrage my phone to XL package where instead of paying $3.50 i could pay $8.00 still worked out cheaper for me instead of getting $18.00 bills !! talk unlimited, i was told i could not a problem and i still recived a discount instead of paying the $3.50 then up to $8.00 i got it for $5.00. ( very happy) then i was told about the price increase from 1st april. as i have xl tv, 3 multiroom boxes and xl phone my price increase would be about $5.50.

i just thought so what ! everything else goes up but thats the way it is !!

my friends all on virgin media are moaning saying we are going to sky. told them go for it if you want crap broadband, sky box that once broke down you pay for and loosing picture when it rains lol

not everything is going up. loft insulation is going cheap at the moment, so I bought some to make savings. i hate broadband price increases, but love internet, so i try to make savings elsewhere.

Re: Virgin media price increase

My bill just arrived... and I'm paying £1.50 LESS than before! The discount has increased to £20.

A bigger bill this time though as the £30 one-off fee for the superhub was included.

Re: Virgin media price increase

I know that l slag off VM, BUT, the increase is worth it.

As l think Sky is now becoming very expensive, I have Sky also, and l pay £15.00 more for it.

Re: Virgin media price increase

The price rise is actually good news.

I was stuck in a 18 month contract with no way out. Then the price rise happened and I was able to cancel VM only 3 months into contract with zero disconnection fees.

Although I only canceled the TV service. So ultimately I will pay sky about £70 for all packs and movies with HD and multiroom with HD. and VM get £37 for 50mb with phoneline. So bassically ViP50 ut sky telly and VM net and phone.

Best of both worlds.

Vip50 is around £105 i think and my current set up is £107 but I get all HD on both boxes.

Re: Virgin media price increase

I am a complete newbie here, so please bear with me!

I have just been informed bu VM cust services, that a discount will automatically be applied to my account to cover increase, as I have only recently signed an 18 month contract.

This is at loggerheads with call to 150 last night, who told me I would need to cancel, & then failed to put me through to cancellation dept.

TRUE or BUNKUM?

any answers please.

Re: Virgin media price increase

If you have a six month offer, then as I understand it then the price increase won't apply during the offer period. Instead will apply at the end. I think this due some legal reasons.

So the price increase will still affect you, just later than others

Re: Virgin media price increase

Thanks,

I was told specifically that it would apply to the whole contract, are they just hoping that I will forget in July when my intro period runs out?

Re: Virgin media price increase

Alternatively, the price rise won't affect you if you been sold the services at the newer price

Any bundle sold after the 1st Feb was at the post April price

It's not a swizz; it is a general price increase which affects all customers.

You are fortunate as a new customer on a six month incentive reduction to be protected from this increase for a period - a protection not available to existing, long standing customers.
