Councils defeat government over school buildings

The government has been defeated in the High Court over the way it scrapped part of England's school building programme.

In five of the six council cases, the failure was "so unfair as to amount to an abuse of power", said the judge.

Mr Justice Holman, sitting in London, allowed the challenges by the councils, declaring that Mr Gove had unlawfully failed to consult them before imposing the cuts.
So what.
Quote:
Mr Gove's decision-making process was also unlawful "because of his failure to discharge relevant statutory equality duties under the Sex Discrimination Act, Race Relations Act and Disability Discrimination Act."
If there was any doubt that this decision is garbage, that surely removes any doubt.

Were any of the schools due to be built specifically for one sex, race or used exclusively by pupils with disabilities?

No? That's the consultation finished then.
I suppose it does show the ridiculous red tape left by the last government when you have to jump through hoops NOT to spend money.

The whole scheme was an absolute shambles and needed scrapping anyway .It was riddled with profiteering and price fixing ,exactly the same as the Decent Homes Scheme .

Re: Councils defeat government over school buildings

The schools should've pushed plans through so they were at such an advanced stage they couldn't have their BSF funding scrapped.
That's what the two local schools near my estate did, building work started on the one back in September.
