Connecting Samsung LE32R73BD television and Advent Roma Laptop
Hi I am new here and have just registered.
I am trying to watch AVI's stored on my Advent Roma Laptop through my Samsung LE32R73BD TV and connecting them both together with HDMI cable.
I get a great picture and everything seems to work OK except ..... I get NO sound either from the TV or the laptop.
I have tried the obvious (to me) solutions, all to no avail.
Does anyone have any ideas please, I should be grateful of any replies.
Thanks

What OS do you have on the laptop?
If it's Vista or Windows 7 you may need to specifically choose the HDMI as the audio output

What he said ^ Go into Sound Settings in the control panel and choose the HDMI Audio output and right-click and select Set-Default, you will need to change it back when you want to go back to onboard

Thanks Graham and Ben, I have Windows 7 as the OS but HDMI Audio is not listed as an option in the sound settings perhaps it only shows when the HDMI connection is made, right now I am back 'online' but I will check it out later and let you know the outcome.
thanks again.

Re: Connecting Samsung LE32R73BD television and Advent Roma Laptop
I know with my pc which is connected to my Panasonic 42" via a DVI - HDMI cable I have to turn of my headset's to get the sound to come though the TV.
When I plug a HDMI lead in to my laptop I don't need to do anything, except turn the sound up on my TV.
Have a look in the option's on the TV to see if there is a option for the sound input, and then check when you have the HDMI lead plugged in to the laptop that there is no option for the TV in the sound control panel.

Re: Connecting Samsung LE32R73BD television and Advent Roma Laptop
george, okay do you know which audio chip you have in the laptop or even graphics card???? as most of the time nowadays if you connect your lappy via hdmi to the tv the drivers need to support audio through HDMI.
Have a look in device manager and see if you can see anything under sound as you should see if all is well HDMI Audio from either Nvidia, AMD or Realtek.

Re: Connecting Samsung LE32R73BD television and Advent Roma Laptop
Thank you all very much indeed for your inputs.
I have resolved the problem now it was just a simple matter of selecting the HDMI device as the default when I connect to the TV as suggested by Ben and Graham.
I am delighted !
