Re: 20 Mb/s to 30Mb/s free upgrade

Thinking of upgrading from 20-30 Mb but that costs £30. As an existing customer is it now free to upgrade to 50 Mb?

I have a loyalty discount and my bill actually went down 50p as the discount increased by 50p.

It's free installation and activation if you want to upgrade to 50Mb currently, obviously your monthly bill will increase though.

Yes you should be able too, unless you have some kind of retentions deal in which case i am not sure if your bill won't increase, either request the upgrade online or phone up and try.

If you have phoned up, been told otherwise and have now taken the 30Mb uplift, I'd be checking your next bill very closely if I were you, just to make sure you really do still have your retentions deal.
I will be checking my bill very carefully, as I asked for confirmation that my monthly charges would stay the same, and the only difference would be a one off cost of £30, and the nice gentleman from Customer Services confirmed this (I also checked that the £30 one of cost was inclusive of VAT, and that was confirmed.)

I currently have the following credits every month on my bill (taken from my current bill).
Additional Loyalty Discount

Triple Combo Loyalty Discount
Add Set Box(es) Discount

Does this mean that because I'm on a retentions deal to keep me as a customer I'm unable to pay the £30 for this upgrade from XL20 to XL30 unless I'm willing to go on standard pricing and lose my discounts?
Read my earlier posts, or if you can't be bothered try again next Monday. If its a case of waiting a week for a possible, repeat, possible free upgrade, then its worth waiting.

Correct, it won't. It's not *every* 20mb connection being upgraded, you need to have it activated. That's going to cost £30 unless you [can] sweet-talk a deal.

Up to five years ago, I always paid full price, but kept reading about these deals. I remember coming here and saying that its unethical, or something similar. Then it was pointed out to me that VM don't have to offer the deals and there is still quite a mark up on them. So the reality is the retentions deals are the standard price, and the "normal" prices are inflated.

Before someone cries foul, don't forget the line rental charge, which by the way is going up in April. You are paying for a bit of old copper wire, but as Berkett has admitted, the reality is its a connectivity charge which is where they make their money.

So don't feel guilty hitting the retentions number, I've never looked back since and saved hundreds as a result.

VM don't have to offer me a free upgrade to 30mb, but based on past experiences I am very confident they will in the next week or so. But if in the end I have to pay £30, so be it.

No disrespect, but what did you expect - a freebie?

Just ring up, apply for it, accept the £30 activation fee.

Then sit back and wait for your superhub to be delivered, connect and -DONE!

Do it online http://shop.virginmedia.com/existing...broadband.html

You'd normally need to pay a £40 installation charge, and a £20 activation fee for Broadband XXL, but we'll cover both!
Quote:
