You have misunderstood me, with Amazon buying up streaming providers they already have the rights for that respective country. I did not mean netflix would come to the UK but that Amazon would have a operation in the US and the UK under different names. I can see it all coming under one name eventually.

Yeah, but not from amazon.co.uk. Yet.

And I can't see that happening, even after the Amazon takeover, Lovefilm is a strong brand name by itself these days, with TV adverts galore, and besides.....isn't Sky's ownership of some VOD movies right preventing other companies from doing that sort of thing?

Not nessarliy, are not all new installs VHD boxes now? And surely if old stock is now failing it is being replaced by VHD? This is a Cisco box as well and could run a streamlined Tivo service which Berkett has hinted to in the past?

My mistake.

I just think that some people think that Netflix over here = the chance to (legally) watch US content days after being shown in the States.

If Netflix were to open up over here tomorrow, they would (at best) only have access to UK content which is already provided by various VOD services over here anyway. I've read somewhere that's why Hulu have (for now) postponed their move into the UK market.

I am not entirely certain who streaming versus VoD rights work but in the US everyman and his god seem to have a streaming service, Netflix, Vudo, amazon and those are just of the top of my head.

I can't see the difference between being able to stream to a cable box versus a Blu ray player or directly to a TV. Amazon are usually quite good at leaving brand alone after purchase but I think the Amazon brand is too strong to not rebrand LoveFilm at some point.

Fair point a monthly sub to stream films is great , however I think this year you will see Amazon on demand movies much like this

I am pretty sure some legal services already offer this like iTunes and there is one other that I saw advertised the other day saying watch day after US broadcast. I know it is vague but I will see if I can remember who it is.

Edit: Ok I think it was itunes http://television.thedigitalfix.co.u...broadcast.html not sure I would want to pay per episode.

But if it is a app on Tivo then you won't have to worry about your connection being capped if you want to stream a HD movie or have it effect other in the home.

I hope TIVO gets access to both Lovefilm streaming and an amazon on demand service the more choice the better. Pretty good value as well at $3.99 although most currently are SD.

Even before joining them I was getting loads of post in the post of them, begging me to join. Of course, their biggest shareholder at the time was doing their bit to promote Lovefilm too.

I forgot to mention: You can watch PPV movies on Lovefilm, but that's on top of your Lovefilm package price.

As for the good old Sky Factor:

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/digitalt...mackenzie.html
Quote:
LoveFilm is unable to instantly offer digital streams of new release movies because Sky owns the majority of subscription video on-demand (SVOD) rights in the UK. Last August, Ofcom asked the Competition Commission to investigate concerns about Sky's sale and distribution of SVOD rights. The media regulator was particularly concerned that the satellite broadcaster's exclusive control over first-run Hollywood movies gave it an "incentive and ability to distort competition". Ofcom further believes that the current situation results in "less choice, less innovation and higher prices" for consumers.

Yeah, dedicated 10 meg connection for each TiVo, optimized for video delivery and free of STM. Love it already.

As for legal services......can't say I've seen any, not for US content days after their stateside broadcast. I'll be interested if you have any luck finding such a service.

Right, I need food.

Re: TiVo

Maybe a big player like Amazon may force a change in this Sky movie farce.

---------- Post added at 18:43 ---------- Previous post was at 18:38 ----------

An internet radio app on Tivo would be good as well.

Re: TiVo

You may have missed my edit http://television.thedigitalfix.co.u...broadcast.html

The ad I saw must have been for them they are now offering a selection of shows for download the day after broadcast. Can't say i am a fan of pay per episode on top of a cable subscription or the whole Apple lock in system when it comes to itunes video.
