Re: 20 Mb/s to 30Mb/s free upgrade
Reading through the posts, the hub is a DOCSIS2 device and won't be capable of the 3mb upstream (anyone know what it IS capable of?) and DOCSIS2 downstream is up to 27mbps (?). Possibly then, those of us with the hub will end up keeping the equipment we have as it's a free upgrade anyway and will likely be advertised as 'up to'.
I hope all that made sense!
As a side note, I remember when we got a free upgrade to 10mb from something or other (maybe 4?) and were told we needed a SACM as our STB's wouldn't do it. But they did.

If a Super Hub were to be required, then I do not foresee it being a free upgrade as currently they are £75 for existing customers, therefore in theory there would most likely be some kind of fee attached, particularly as the Super Hub has not even been part of the company's equipment portfolio for more than a few weeks at present.

Re: 20 Mb/s to 30Mb/s free upgrade
Thanks for that. I guess the hub will do it's best with what we get for free then.

The Hub is a DOCSIS 2 device and IS capable of 3mb upstream. Like Igni said, it's capable of 27mbps upstream. DOCSIS 2 downstream is 38mbps/50mbps depending on frequency plan. DOCSIS 2 upstream is 27mbps depending on frequency plan and line/equipment quality/etc.
The old modem can do 30/3 fine, VM just don't want to do it that way.
Same as the 50mb modem vs. the Superhub. The old 50mb modem is perfectly capable of the 100/10mb service, VM just don't want to do it that way.
DOCSIS 3 downstream/upstream speed wise is just multiple DOCSIS 2 downstreams/upstreams bonded together.

Re: 20 Mb/s to 30Mb/s free upgrade
Thanks for clarifying.
I'm happy as long as the replacement hub I'm getting works. Even happier if it does the speed when the upgrade arrives.

Nobody has said whether VM will be doing it that way or whether they wont be. We wont know how VM will be performing the upgrade until they issue a press release. Until then all we can do is speculate what *may* happen.
If Ambit 256 modems are capable of 30/3 like some have already said then that is what they should go with IMO.

am I missing something? I thought VM's use of docsis2 was the 18mbit version?

On the upstream, yes. But the modems would still be capable of 27mb if VM implemented it on the network.

Re: 20 Mb/s to 30Mb/s free upgrade
Could it be they will give you the superhub if you agree to contract for 12 months more.

"Having just spoken to someone in customer services regarding an unrelated matter, he did confirm letters were being sent out to all XL customers on the 19th, and the upgrade would be free. There would be a code on the letter to quote. I think he said the new services starts 1st Feb."

And 27 also isn't 52359872. What's your point?
