Re: TiVo

Just thought that the lyrics to Queen's "I want it all" is rather apt for us that want/need Tivo!

Adventure seeker on an empty street,
Just an alley creeper, light on his feet
A young fighter screaming, with no time for doubt
With the pain and anger can't see a way out,
It ain't much I'm asking, I heard him say,
Gotta find me a future move out of my way,
I want it all, I want it all, I want it all, and I want it now,
I want it all, I want it all, I want it all, and I want it now,

Listen all you people, come gather round
I gotta get me a game plan, gotta shake you to the ground
Just give me what I know is mine,
People do you hear me, just give me the sign,
It ain't much I'm asking, if you want the truth
Here's to the future for the dreams of youth,
I want it all, I want it all, I want it all, and I want it now,
I want it all, I want it all, I want it all, and I want it now,

I'm a man with a one track mind,
So much to do in one life time (people do you hear me)
Not a man for compromise and where's and why's and living lies
So I'm living it all, yes I'm living it all,
And I'm giving it all, and I'm giving it all,
It ain't much I'm asking, if you want the truth,
Here's to the future, hear the cry of youth,
I want it all, I want it all, I want it all, and I want it now,
I want it all, I want it all, I want it all, and I want it now

That would seem to coincide with a rumour I heard...

...but this contradicts it.

I can't imagine VM would launch the tivo without the 3rd tuner, but I've heard a rumour that Feb 14th (Valentine's Day) is the launch day for tivo.

Re: TiVo

Well they have launched it to 500 staff with only 2 tuners and if the rollout to existing customers happens in Feb then they will also only have 2 tuners until the code drops.

There is no reason to delay the rollout till the 3rd tuner is enabled.

Re: TiVo

Feels like launch in February with 2 tuners and then software update to activate 3 tuners in March, I’ll live with that.

I have a SA V+ right now and I seem to remember there was a problem with the 3rd tuner a few years ago so we’ve been in this situation before in that case a fault!

You'll only have to wait 4 weeks max to get 3rd tuner switched on, if you get installed before March

Without giving too much away... it is something you can live with for a little bit

You do realise the huge benefits of the third tuner when it's not there.

Re: TiVo

Agreed, that is good news if that is what is actually going to happen.

With a family of 4 with different tastes, the lack of a 3rd tuner is almost a show stopper for me buying (I registered on the first day we were able to do so), you are certainly right about realising the benefits of a 3rd tuner when it is not there!

Not every channel has a +1 option or access to catch up (especially Sky 1 which may change in future) so it is quite often I schedule 2 recordings while watching a third.

Ready to order now!

Based on past experience of the whole introduction of digital TV over all platforms there is every reason to concerned. These new technologies initially seem simple to distribute but frequently prove a lot more problematic in practice. If the third tuner was a simple software upgrade it would have been implemented by now. There is obviously a problem somewhere with the introduction of the Tivo box.

The whole razzmatazz of the original announcement and then...............silence.

Not sure about the 3rd tuner problem on V+.. I was a beta tester for the telewest TVdrive, along time before V+ and the 3rd tuner worked from day 1, 3 months before launch.

I'm in the won't order till it's working camp. It's too easy to say 3rd tuner is simple upgrade, as above if it's that simple it should be on there now. Truth is adding a 3rd tuner to the tivo software could throw up all kinds of issues within the software that no one has foreseen. After all tivo have known the box would have 3 tuners ever since the first contracts were signed how long (2years??) ago.

Re: TiVo

I think it was a reliability problem rather than not available at all, but this is only from memory.

I have had the SA V+ (TVDrive) since March 2006 and the three tuner capability has ALWAYS been there.

If i remember rightly very early (during beta) there was a problem if you were recording from 2 sources and started to watch a 3rd recorded program the box would freeze (white border bug). But that was fixed well before launch.

Edit.. Oddly enough yesterday i had my first bug in i don't know how long.. the box freaked out and started recording from ESPN HD on 2 tuners the same NBA game, that wasn't even on.. Checking the planned programs all the NBA stuff i had set was duplicated a number of times.. very odd.. but i assume it's an epg issue.. oh well lol

It's got the hump because you are considering replacing it with the Tivo!

Re: TiVo

Cant believe customers are panicking over the 3rd tuner not being quite ready for distibution, so are these people constantly recording two programs at the same time all the time, I dont think so, I'm surprised you have any spare space on the hard drive if this is the case and the time to watch the recordings.
