Re: Virgin to give new Superhub out.

For anyone running the pingtest test, make sure you have an up to date version of java, otherwise the packet loss part will not run.
Here's my results:

Firewall services including IP Flood detection enabled:

Then with JUST IP flood detection disabled (other firewall services left on):

Pretty conclusive.

So, it nothing to do with the firewall. The IP Flood Detection can be found on the superhub stat page on the services on the left side. Hope this help to other who had packet loss problem with new superhub.
You're at it again. If you only activated the superhub today how did you have packet loss issues 2-3 days ago?

Re: Virgin to give new Superhub out.

It would be good to keep the thread on topic guys. I don't see anything wrong with his post? He has linked to a pingtest from an hour ago today/tonight? How is that 3 days ago?

because I didn't know the pocket loss issues was coming from IP Flood Detection enabled on the superhub. I had phoned up 50 meg tech support line and he know I already had a superhub and did activated it for me straight away because they had my superhub mac address on their system as he just ask me to swap over to superhub from my old 50 meg modem.

So, I am now happy with my superhub and there is no packet loss issues now after disabled the IP Flood Detection. So, after xmas, I am going to give my old 50 meg modem back to virgin media when the tech guy come and collect it.

He said he went back to the modem due the packet loss, so possibly they've reactivated the SuperHub as we've shown why the packet loss can show up?

Yep, that is correct! I only find out from virgin media staff named BenMcr and give myself a go today with the superhub and it worked !!! Oh by the way, the man told me on the phone that they suppose to charged me £75.00 for the superhub because I already had 50 meg modem with me, but they decided it not my fault at all due to staff error to give me a free superhub and will give me free of charge this time with a xmas goodwill gesture!

Re: Virgin to give new Superhub out.

I had spoken to nice man on the phone ask him a question about 100 Meg in March 2011:

Do I need another tech guy to come out to installing 100 meg if I want it in March 2011 ? and his reply is: No, you don't need a tech guy coming out because you already had a superhub and you only just need to pay one off activation fee £30.00 to put you on 100 meg but you will be in a renewal 12 months contract.

The only broadband equipment Virgin want back are the Hubs. Modems will be collected if there is also a STB to return, but if it's just a standalone modem they won't.

Well that's wrong. Although you have a SuperHub, an engineer will be sent for now as part of 100Mbit install. Also at the moment 50Mbit customers upgrading to 100Mbit get free install and activation.

Re: Virgin to give new Superhub out.

Dear R

As previously discussed the Postal Service used by Virgin Media has now been discontinued in favour of a full door step collection service which will be supplied on a National Footprint by ********

To this point please note that your current contract rate of £ per account collected will decrease in line with our new contract rate to £ per account collected. You will be issued all available collections within your current post codes. The forecasts we have received from our client predicts a minimum of 40,000 available accounts per calendar month.

Please note that all of the above will take effect from the close of play Sunday the 21st of November 2010, in short all accounts collected and dropped via the ***** Admin Team by the end of this week will be paid at £ per account, any accounts collected and dropped thereafter the aforementioned date will be paid at the new contract rate of £ per account.

I hope all of the above is clear and thank you for your continued support.

Managing Director.

I know that, you said:

Turning off the firewall will not place your PC at risk
That could lead an inexperienced person to think that the firewall is of no use at all, and that there is not risk.

Turning off any security on any device is a risk, no matter how small.

A piece of software remaining active to perform no useful purpose is a risk in itself.

Re: Virgin to give new Superhub out.

Having had a dig and not found much, is it possible to flip the Superhup into Routed or Bridge only mode? Only reason I ask if that I am all DD-WRT'd up, and it does various things for me I don't think the Superhub can do necessarily. And I don't fancy double-natting myself! I'm still on one of the Ambit 250 modems, but if it died or I upgraded to 50 meg, I'm going to end up with a Superhub. More curiosity than anything at this point.

As it has embedded Virginmedia firmware for the modem side you would probably brick it.

Re: Virgin to give new Superhub out.

Ohhh nono, I don't want to run DD-WRT on the box itself. I'm well aware it's a 'black box' to me - same way I can't go upgrading the hard disk in my V+ (as much as I'd LOVE to).

I'd just want it to run in 'dumb' bridged or routed mode, so my existing Router could carry on working its magic, and let the modem do modem things.
