Exclamation Reception Areas?

Hi to everyone from a newbie.

This may sound a daft question but can anyone tell me why I am receiving MERIDIAN as my local news station when I am actually in the Anglia/Thames region??

Its very annoying when, after the BBC news, I then get 'local' news for places that I dont even know.
People that are in my street but on either Sky or another network are getting Anglia/Thames.

Just to be clear....I live in Harlow, Essex and up until I got Virgin Media installed I got the real local news from my area.

Thanks for reading.

As far as I know Anglia is indeed the ITV contractor for Harlow as you well doubt know, Thames left the network in 1992. There was a sub region called ITV Thames Valley but it didn't cover Harlow and has since been closed.

Is there any chance you are watching on channel 113 ITV1 HD? if so you won't get your local news as Anglia does not have an HD channel yet, try 103 to see what news you get.

If you live in an overlap area you may find further regions in the 800's on your EPG.

Re: Reception Area's.??

Thanks for your reply.
What bought this problem to my attention was when my mum rang me about The One Show on BBC1. We were both watching it but the actual content on the show was different. We live just 5 minutes walk from eachother?? Mum is not on Virgin media TV though.
We looked into it with further programs on different days and found that when the BBC news finishes...mum gets BBC LOOK EAST (which would be Anglia on ITV) and I get MERIDIAN.
My problem is that the Meridian news is NOT local to me and so is of no benefit..whereas I cannot see whats been happening in my town if I want to.
Its petty I know, as I could easily change channels to ITV but why do we get Meridian in the first place???

What do you mean by "could easily change channels to ITV"? Which channel are you watching?

As mersey70 says, there is no Anglian version of ITV1HD (channel 113), so you will get Meridian on that. But 103 should be Anglia.

Re: Reception Areas?

Well I dont know if its something I said on the phone to VM but things seem to have corrected themselves. At this moment in time I am watching BBC Look East and also have Anglia News on ITV1.
It has been explained to me that it could possibly have been signals being sent from another area due to problems with my local/nearest transmitter?? Doesnt mean a lot to me but at least today I have been informed that two of the roads in my area are closed due to snow.

It seems.....Problem Solved.....thanx

That is very possible. If they have a fault with one region's programmes, they temporarily switch in the programmes from a different region whilst they fix the problem.

Glad it is sorted for you.

Re: Reception Areas?

From the terrestrial point of view, officially Harlow is in the London TSA (Crystal Palace transmitter) although there is an overlap with the adjacent Anglia region (Sudbury). I remember someone mentioning in another thread about this anomaly with the Harlow area cable service. Haven't managed to locate it yet.
