V+ HD channels have no sound

I have set up my virgin media V+ box with the surround system using optical out. Set up on the V+ box to accept it and at first it worked with HD channels but now it doesn't. There is no sound at all on HD channels. However on non HD channels the sound is fine. Stereo obviously but still works through the surround sound system. And 5.1 works fine with blu ray. Anyone have any idea?

Its a scientific atlanta box. I have tried resetting it but to no avail.

You need to switch HDMI over-ride ON in the settings menu of the V+HD

The box doesn't know whether you need stereo or Dolby, so there is a setting to let you choose. (I'll agree the setting has a stupid name on the V+, though - it's much more sensible on the V-HD box)

You'd be a lot more annoyed if you didn't have a choice.

Try switching the setting off then on again.

Do you get sound on ITV1 HD?

True but we dont have the amp on all the time so if we are channel surfing and the amp is not on and you get to a hd channel and there is no sound can be a pain having to go into the settings to turn the override on.

Re: V+ HD channels have no sound

Ok had a play with it, ITV1 HD seems to be the only channel with working sound when HDMI overide is ON. But if im on another HD channel and I switch overide OFF, the sound comes through, not sure if its stereo or 5.1 though.

Stay on BBC HD 187, this will have a test card at some point. This will test 5.1 for you

108 in BBC one HD

also, your amp should say it's getting a 5.1 or 2.0 signal?

It's stereo. (I asked you to check ITV1HD because that's the only HD channel that doesn't have 5.1).

Seems your amp isn't working when the V+ sends 5.1. Check the settings on the amp for the input you are using.

Re: V+ HD channels have no sound

Thanks for all your help. I have now sorted it. There are 2 optical in connections on the back of the surround sound system. For some reason I had to use number 2 for it to work with 5.1 which is odd. Works a treat now though!
