Re: Ink Cartridges

Whatever way you do it, it's a messy business! Get out the Marigolds, lol.

I recent bought cartridges for my Lexmark printer, and they cost more than the printer!

And they are hard to get cheap versions of (hence the cheap printer, they make their money on the cartridges)

Re: Ink Cartridges

Rgarding Lexmark printer cartridges. "Oh dear" does not quite express my feelings, but I assume profanity would be barred in this forum. I purchased the Lexmark Intuition SE S508 from Dixons for approximately £100.00. THEN I discovered how much replacement cartridges cost. "Holy Moses," as Batman would say. A third of the cost of the printer! And they are not refillable - by design. There are no compatables as they sold so few of the printers. Oh, and the wireless function siezed within weeks and I now have it connected with a USB. Paper jams a plenty.
For my previous printer I bought compatables from Inkredible. Fantastic service! Cheap prices! And they worked every time.
Lexmark? Never agin!

Re: Ink Cartridges

They are well known for cheap printers, but expensive inks... and their nozzles tend to block forever if not used regularly.

I bought the missus a Kodak printer (which claims to have the cheapest inks) thinking "Oh yeah, the cartridges are cheap because they hold almost no ink"... but have been proved very wrong! They last easily as long as other brands.

Re: Ink Cartridges

If you need to do a fair bit of printing always go laser.

Yes the toners may cost around £100 but they are still page per pager cheaper that ink.

Ink jet ink is the most expensive liquid on the planet.

Re: Ink Cartridges

I've a Canon printer and have always refilled my own cartridges.

A common problem is airlocks.

The foam inside the cartridge is mostly empty cells, when an area (sod's law decrees it to be usually at the bottom nearest the outlet) gets filled with air instead of ink it can stop that colour ink from printing. The Manufacturer gets around this by using a vacuum method to initially fill the cartridges.

Often it is assumed the print head is blocked.

At home, a simple way to overcome this problem is to utilise centrifugal force. Seal the cartridges outlet, put the cartridge in a poly bag and secure it to a suitable piece of cord. Now just whirl the cartridge around and around until the ink is forced to displace the air. DO IT OUTSIDE!!!

Here here, you cannot beat a laser, £100 for the toner and it will last probably 10 times more than ink, you easily save money with laser .

How are they for photo printing on glossy/matte paper? What's the cost of these papers for a laser compared to inkjet papers??
