It's not yours to use without a sub. With Sky you have to buy the box and also pay a monthly sub to use it as intended.

my point was you don't pay a fee for the DVR function you pay for the HD channels which you do with Virgin if u take sky premium HD
You said the 1TB Sky+HD box was £249 up front but there's no monthly sub for the box - without a monthly sub you have a very expensive non-DVR FTA HD box.

The vast majority of Virgin Media subscribers don't take Sky premium HD, they don't need to take Sky premium HD to get a low cost V+ HD box. With Sky the so-called 'free' HD box you refer to requires a monthly HD subscription on top of your basic TV package.

and if there was a monthly fee for TIVO this would be extra.
TiVo is a premium service, there is no comparable offering available in the UK and even with an additional monthly sub it would still be competitively priced with a certain inferior rival pay tv service which charges up to £250 for a 1TB box, extra for HD and ESPN, requires additional services for its AnyTime+ progressive download offering and then caps usage to a few hours per month for those with the basic broadband bundle.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010) Vol. IV

I actually meant no sub for the DVR function if you take a Sky mix. Anyway my point is this if Virgin charge over say 200 upfront and a sub of say 10.00 a month it will flop. I personally want a TIVO but would not pay that kind of pricing model. It has to be one or the other upfront or monthly.

You said its £249 with no monthly fee. What you didn't say is that without a monthly fee it no longer works as a DVR even though you own the box.

You can buy a HD box for 79.00 and take 1 sky mix and get free DVR functions with cable you pay for this function unless your on XL.
1 Sky mix costs £19.50 while a Virgin basic TV pack costs £12.50 or as little as £6.50 if you a have a Virgin land line. You can activate a V HD box for no aditional monthly fee or add a V+ HD DVR for £5 and still pay less than 1 Sky Mix. You also get access to Catch Up VOD at no extra cost and if you have a V HD or V+ HD box a better selection of HD than Sky basic mixes without the HD sub.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010) Vol. IV

I was going to post this in the TiVo Preview thread but it's locked.

Hopefully we get a Virgin Media version of this:

Also the US TiVo pricing structure has nothing to do with ours. There your TiVos customer, here VM are TiVos customer. Your not going to be paying TiVo anything.

If this pricing structure is adopted and you pay say 200 for the box and 10.00 a month that would mean you would have to pay 320.00 in year 1 for a rented box mmmm that sounds value.

VM want to increase the ARPU, make the customer feel like they're saving money by spending a little more and they will. If you can get customers to move from L TV to XL by saying that the TiVo monthly fee is waived, great!

I paid £100 "install" and a tenner a month in 2006 when the TV Drive came out and I didn't moan about it, well maybe a little. NTL changed what they did and waived the monthly fee for XL customers, I was happy, NTL were happy I was paying them more for XL TV.

Yes, a price hasn't been set for TiVo but I know from the various people I've talked to who have the VM TiVo box that a monthly fee is quite possible. It's TiVo's business model, absolutely nothing to stop VM absorbing it for XL customers, but that's pure speculation!

To fair, the Sky price of £19.50 does include broadband, where as with VM it does cost extra.

Most wouldn't be opposed to a monthly fee for TIVO if there was no upfront cost , but to charge both would be a step to far for a box that's never yours.

Just to clarify their free broadband has a 2Gb per month cap. Also you don't get it with just the tv package you also have to take their phone package. Lastly not all Sky customers can get it. It depends whether Sky have upgraded the local exchange. So £19.50 doesn't include broadband.

as indie said they won't charge you for the box.
they will call it a install fee then charge monthly for it
as they do with current boxes £49 + £5 pm for 2nd box

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010) Vol. IV

have a look at this http://www.wired.co.uk/news/archive/...-videogames-tv

Ginx is set to launch with at least four shows in late November. It'll be on Virgin and Sky, and there's a chance that it may be broadcast in HD at launch. Later on the channel may explore 3D, too.

Digital Spy: Bravo closure date announced by Sky

Digital Spy Forums is reporting the following:

Quote:
Bravo will end 25 years of broadcasting on the 1st January 2011 being removed from the Sky and Virgin media cable platforms, no mention was made however on Channel One but can only presume it will be the same date.
