Many people want a PVR but don't want to pay £150 for the pleasure. Cable could lose customers here as Sky offer a free Sky+HD box now.

I think you'll find that Sky charge for their 1TB box - £249 according to their package builder

Was there something on Freeview channel 35 before or was it already reserved for ITV +1?

How so (or were you being facetious )? If you pay extra for XL or VIP you get the + and HD features included. Simples!

I would guess ITV1+1 probably will be available on VM.

I sometimes have to press the 'i' button twice to get info on my V box - First time blank but if I close the info and press the 'i' button again I get the program details - I don't know if you've tried that

Like I said ALMOST, for people that are willing to pay extra for a PVR then you have that option with V+HD.

The TiVo box at launch will have a 1TB, but that's all that's been announced.

I agree, that is the whole point of VOD and when I had my VHD box fitted in April the techy said VOD is the future , PVR will not be required sooner or later.
I have my own PVR so decided not to go V+ as I can record more on that for the time being.

I wasn't comparing boxes , I was making the point with Sky if you don't want to pay top money for a 1tb box you can still have a PVR free were not many people will want V+HD boxes when they are not to be updated and the TIVO will probably be pricey at first.

Certainly as things stand with VM's VoD, BBC iPlayer, ITV NetPlayer, 4 on Demand, Demand Five and a whole host of other ways to access programming, you are limited by copyright and contractual restrictions as to what you can watch, and for how long after the original airing date you can watch it. Without a PVR/DVR you can't set up a series to record and then watch it all, on demand, at your leisure, without download delays, for no extra fee.

Whilst I can see chargeable on demand streaming options being available to access some content, archives of every show or movie you ever wanted to see are unlikely to be available on TiVo for the foreseeable future.

That's a long way off being almost no need to record content yourself.

Having said that, I'm not sure what the current legal position is on keeping off-air recordings. IIRC there was a 48 hour limit originally when VCRs were introduced although these days the various on-line players generally allow you to download content for up to 30 days and play it for a week but that doesn't usually include films and certain other programmes.

I realise that but I understood that ITV1 was covered and expected that ITV1 HD and the time-shift ITV1 +1 would be too. Wasn't there a big delay in the launch of ITV1 +1 due to advertising competition restrictions compared with the launches of ITV2, ITV3, ITV4 and their time-shift counterparts?

My understanding from my daughter who has a V+ box is that certain programs cannot be recorded on it due to copyright is this the case?

Nope. However the are certain programmes can't be archived due to copyright issues
