Subtitles using 5.8ghz Digisender/Av Sender with V+

Can anyone tell me if I can get subtitles on the tv in the bedroom using a digisender/av sender with virgin media V+? I have bought a cheap av sender and get a picture without any problem but no subtitles which I need!

Thanks

Do you have a Samsung v+ or a Scientific Atlanta v+?

If you have the SA V+, you need to connect the video sender to the TV scart, not the VCR Scart.

Thanks for the reply. Mine is the Scientific Atlanta and was connected to the VCR scart. I have tried connecting to the TV scart but now I don't get a picture at all. Just a blank screen! Where as before using the VCR scart I was able to get a picture but no subtitles. Help!!

That could be because if you use the HDMI output it turns off the TV scart and only allows the VCR scart to work, however any sort of video overlay is not transmitted via the vcr scart so that this is not recorded by the VCR. Are you using the HDMI

Yes I have an HDMI lead on..just not sure what the settings should be because if I change the setting to scart then the tv which is a lcd widescreen becomes like a square tv i.e black on either side of the tv! just need to make sure i know what i am doing!

If you have your main TV connected via HDMI then with a SA box there's no way to transmit the subtitles to a second TV via the scart.

If that is the case with the HDMI cable then, can you tell me the only way it would work?
Thanks in advance

Re: Subtitles using 5.8ghz Digisender/Av Sender with V+

If you are ok with SD then if you set the STB to non HD mode then the SD signal is transmitted over the HDMI cable as well as the SCART socket. This would at least save messing around with HDMI/SCART cables.

I have a 28" WS CRT as my main TV and a 24" HD monitor for my PC. I have a HDMI cable from the STB plugged into the monitor and a DVI cable from the PC. In SD, the picture appears on the TV and the monitor. This means I can switch the STB and monitor to view HD programmes,

What do you by STB? I went into change display & audio setting and I assume the two things i need to change are the tv display format and the TV aut-detects V+ Box (SCART)...should I have a scart lead into my main tv now as well...sorry for this as I am not getting anywhere?

Thanks in advance

Re: Subtitles using 5.8ghz Digisender/Av Sender with V+

STB refers to Set Top Box, ie V+, V Box V HD Box etc.

You need to set the 'TV display format' to one of Widescreen, 4:3 letterbox, or 4:3 normal, ie not Hidef HDMI or HDMI component. In your setup, you should be able to leave the HDMI lead connected to the TV and use the SCART for the Digisender. If your TV is not happy with a SD signal over the HDMI lead, then you could connect it to the SCART as well. You could then switch your TV between using the HDMI source for HD viewing and the SCART for when using the DIgisender in SD mode.
