All this bluster, blood pressure, energy and time being wasted looking for people to complain to. Cancelling services achieves two things - gets attention and means not paying the 'despised' company for a service which is evidently considered sub-standard.

I have always had a very simple approach to companies whose server was unacceptable, including Virgin 5 months ago, it consists of telling them where to go, contributing to their churn figures and ceasing my contribution to their bottom line.

In Virgin's case the service was unreliable, I told them it was unacceptable and they could have their kit back, end of discussion.

in my case its because the alternative's are also poor. Make no mistake tho I could well leave and am already thinking about it. Although I have my broadband at half price, I am still paying the other half for a service that is currently not fit for purpose (posting this on my adsl) as well as paying for the tv and phone service which I dont use.

plusnet eg. also traffic shape but they have packages where you escape protocol shaping so it is not enforced across their product base.

my main problem is my BT line is very poor and as a result of that adsl will be poor, so assuming my speeds never consistently go high again (still low today even tho jitter is way down) VM only wins on line stability in that it doesnt drop out. If I go back to adsl (ukonline closing in jan 2011 rumour) then a adsl line without SRA I can look forward to line drop outs and crc errors affecting things but I probably wont see congestion and jitter.

Some will, some wont , some will downgrade.

It all depends on what their other options are (translation if ADSL is available, how far from the exchange they are, and what is provided at the exchange yadda yadda)

Virgin will consider this a raving success if losses from defections and lost sales are less than infrastructure and peering savings.

I've left Virgin before , and recently comeback at 20Mb,

I've just left BeThere (could only get 3.5Mb but normal surfing was better than on VM 20Mb), but will probably downgrade to 10Mb on Virgin.

If I was closer to the exchange you'd have never seen my posts here

BT's infinity offering to me is tempting 30Mbs down 7.2Mbs up but as the traffic shaping isn't really impacting me ATM I see no reason to change.

STM on my upgraded speed has only kicked in once (the first day!) and even then goes back to what I had before so no problem there either.

Here's the original press release for 50mb from the 15th December 2008:

Here's a couple of lines that stood out to me:

"Premium launch offering includes unlimited downloads, no traffic management, plus the UK’s fastest wireless offer"

"The 50Mb service includes a new EuroDOCSIS3-compatible modem, an unlimited service with no traffic management at launch"

"Virgin Media will be trialling a variety of different approaches to traffic management and upstream speeds, to improve the unique performance of this service."

So it would appear that Virgin did confirm traffic management would be introduced at some stage. So the main question now is how many people on 50mb are feeling the improvement to the unique performance of this service since traffic management was introduced? If they have been trialling a variety of different approaches I'll assume the one they've implemented proved the best? Seriously, has anyone seen any improvement?

What I can't find on this forum is thread after thread, page after page of 50mb customers disgruntled with their service prior to traffic management. How can this possibly be seen as an improvement to the unique performance of this service?

I can't wait to see what bull**** they churn out when launching 100mb. VM, you have lied to us all!
