Whats my network password?
Sorry if this sounds dum.
My dad has just moved into a new house and he has taken out virgin media.
He has a desktop and a laptop. He has a CISCO 2100 modem connected to a D-Link DIR-615 wireless router.
The desktop is in another room to the modem setup, so I have bought him a netgear wireless adaptor. The laptop is connected by wireless, so he has entered the network password before, but he can't remember it and I can't find it written down anywhere. Its on no paperwork he got. The only number I have is on the bottom of the router. It says PIN 46731586 and then serial number etc.
He wouldn't have changed it from factory settings as he wouldn't know how too.
Any ideas? This is frustrating me now.
Thank you

Forgot to say, I have entered the PIN number on the bottom of the router, but it won't connect. It hangs on "acquiring network address" and then disconnects.

Re: Whats my network password?
Router IP is likely to be either 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1, best way of finding out is to type "ipconfig /all" at a dos prompt, your router address is the IP on the line "Default Gateway".

Re: Whats my network password?
Thank you so much.
Yesterday I foloowed the tutorial as your previous link. I've set a password for the router log in, and noted that, and I've also found two passwords for the network (depending on what encryption I use).
I set the router up and managed to get the windows wireless icon on the taskbar to connect.
But, although the signal strength is excellent and the status is connected, internet explorer comes up with an error page (could not connect to the internet).
This is obviously something I've done as the laptop won't connect now either? I've turned encrytion off for the time being to rule out password issues. It's obviously a setting I've changed.
Sorry to be a pain. Any ideas?
PS. the tutorial kept mentioning upuntu? Still don't know what that is.
