Some common sense policing
I dont know whether its common in all police forces to do this but yesterday at work we caught 2 14 year lads spraying graffiti on the walls of some stairwells in our multi storey carpark.
The police were called and instead of taking them down to the police station, they called their parents and asked them to go to B&Q and buy paintbrushes and paint and stay with the lads until it had all been painted over.
They are coming back this morning to put a second coat on as it didnt cover it properly first time.
That saved a lot of paperwork and court time.
This is Cheshire police.

Re: Some common sense policing
About time too.
This is the way minor offenses should be dealt with in the first instance.

Re: Some common sense policing
I agree - but the police need the support of the parents, which sometimes isn't forthcoming.

Re: Some common sense policing
Did they specify a colour?
the reason it didn't cover very well is probably because they bought the big tub of B&Q own brand

Re: Some common sense policing
ok..if they started doing something like this..i might consider relaxing my "castration" solution to most crimes.
But as someone said (someone in this case is Hugh), I can see some parents saying no..probably complaining it infringes the children's human rights..so not relaxing my solution yet.

Re: Some common sense policing
Too many kids have parents that don't see anything wrong in them being out of control.
They just come out with stupid statements like 'I can't be expected to watch them'
Maybe if Colins idea of castration had happened 20 years ago we would not have the trouble we do now.

I wonder if NCP will sue the local Police Force for making kids splatter unapproved paint all over their car park.

Re: Some common sense policing
I think its disgraceful.
Did the cops involved fill in a health and safety checksheet identifying the risks? Did they think of the damage paint fumes might do to the wee urchins and provide appropriate personal protection equipment and cordon off the area?
Did they think of the on-going emotional trauma of making the children paint over the wall and think of the blatant breach of their human rights by making them destroy their expressions of individuality they painstakingly sprayed onto the wall? And what of the embarassment caused if acquaintences of the children see them being punished...
Right thats enough sarcasm for today. It's a good idea and seems like the parents were in full support which is a bit of a rarity and seems like the kids involved might actually end up contributing something to society aside from leaving syringes in alleyways.
