Next generation mobiles could affect STBs

LTE based mobiles could cause interference:
Quote:
The crucial bandwidth at the centre of the issue is 800Mhz, which will be used to bring in LTE, which will allow users access to the internet on mobile phones at 20 times current speeds. The frequency has also been seen as useful to bring mobile broadband to rural areas. However, tests found that some of the new high-powered mobile devices cause cable TV to disrupt, from pixellation to total loss of image. It has emerged that the European standards for a cable TV box shielding and wiring insulation were not set at a strong-enough level to prevent interference from LTE mobiles.

My old cordless phone causes my Pace STB's picture to 'stutter' when the phone base is too close to the STB.

Re: Next generation mobiles could affect STBs

Why do I keep having visions of some Sky executives smiling at this possible problem?

Re: Next generation mobiles could affect STBs

Well, at least VM are being proactive:
Quote:
In the UK, cable TV provider Virgin Media has had talks with the government and media regulator Ofcom after it held tests that confirmed the devices could be a problem. The watchdog is to consult on UK spectrum auctions and will consider the issue.

Any interference caused by electrical goods, RF,EMI ect could affect the operation of the Virginmedia STB or Sky STB at present, so no smiling faces on either side.

At present there are no Muxes/signal transmimited at that Frequency, well 755Mhz being the highest frequency.

All the Amps at present have diplex filters installed in them that causes the signal to drop off from 750MHZ onwards.
So will have to wait and see!

I suspect those who are smiling have the greatest control. There may be some rolling about the floor by other executives and there may even be some involuntary, erm, expulsion of human liquid waste.
