Cleaning LCD tv with microfiber cloth?

My Samsung LCD tv has got a few marks on it so could do with a clean. I've been googling the best way to do it and apparently a damp microfiber cloth is the best way.

Has anyone done it this way before? Apparently it's better than using cleaning kits. I'm obviously worried about it leaving streaks on the screen.

if your screen has a membrane (anti-glare coating), get some panel cleaning gel...

does a really good job - no streaks. seems expensive, but lasts a loooong time as you only need a couple of squirts to clean the whole screen (going by my 42"). water from the tap contains elements that can ruin the membrane so don't use anything on it other than specially designed stuff!!!!

I've used microfibre cloths for several years and they've worked fine on my lcd monitors and TV screens. I tend to use a little distilled water to dampen the cloth as we live in a hard water area and that avoids any streaking.

I use Strand LCD cleaning spray from ASDA with kitchen cloth, does the job nicely

I never knew they were so susceptible to cleaning products

Sure was. After doing some more research through google, I'd say 99% of people used tapwater and haven't had any problems.

Well actually I spent about Â£800 on a tele and didn't bother to read the bit about how to clean it

.

Don't know about you but reading TV manuals aint my bag so I just scan read the bits I needed to on installation then never look at the destructions again.

Doesn't everyone do that

I know how to install and operate a tele, but manufacturers will usually include a 'how to care for your product' section, which is the bit I take interest in. after spending a grand on a tv, the least I can do is be bothered to read how to clean it properly without potentially causing damage or corrosion.

each to their own I suppose. i suppose it depends a lot on the quality of the tv. some use more sensitive membranes than others perhaps...?

a quick google will repeatedly return the same results about how to clean them if they are not glass fronted and I would bet few if any of them would advise using tap water over distilled if water is involved at all. it takes 2 seconds to search and 2 minutes to read. surely people are not that lazy? then again, if they don't bother to read the manual and instead use a paper towel and Mr. Muscle (both of which are definite no-nos for membrane screens)....

I would say Its not down to being lazy just me being impatient and blissfully unaware of the issue, when setting up a new TV I just blitz through the process then enjoy as do many I suspect, maybe like you say higher end tv's may be less susceptible to membrane damage, but in all my years of owning LCD TV's I've never heard nor come across anyone who has damaged theirs due to incorrect cleaning.

However now armed with my new found knowledge I will certainly look out for a more appropriate screen cleaner and birch myself for not bothering to read through the pages of dross that usually accompany any new electrical appliance these days.

I would be genuinely interested to know if anyone reading this thread has ever experienced a problem with their screen discolouring after incorrect cleaning.

Been using microfibre cloths and distilled water here for quite a few years on our various TVs and PC monitors. We've had no problems at all. Just to point out though, I only make the cloth ever so slightly damp - no need for it to be wet.

whats new labour,old labour, or any other labour got to do with cleaning tv sets? I actually thought that it was the bankers who got us into this mess,i.e. Goldman Sachs.
