My SA is fine and I have no issues with it whatsoever and it changes channel fast enough for me it is responsive enough for me, plus I use a Samsung for diagnostics every day in work as it is the nearest unit to my desk but I still prefer my SA.

Re: Samsung V+ Box, what a difference!

I've had both the SA and a Samsung box. To be honest I think they are both as good as each other, had no lagging while changing channels on SA box at all. I only changed due to the SA box dying after it cutting out a couple of times, engineer came out and replaced it with a Samsung box (It took three attempts though as the first two died just after they were switched on!!).

Re: Samsung V+ Box, what a difference!

I've owned both and been able to compare. Absolutely no difference what so ever with picture quality apart from the SA menu problem (which I think got fixed with an update?)

Re: Samsung V+ Box, what a difference!

I think it's a typical change thing. Something changes and they feel that somehow they are losing out and hence they over analyse a picture that is in no way different to their old STB. I have owned both at one point (before our SA box died) and now have 2 Samsungs instead. What I am about to tell you is the act of a sad obsessed geek yes, but the point is I'm anal about this kind of thing and would like to think if I cannot see a difference, there is no difference. When I first got an additional STB upstairs it was a Samsung and so I had one Sa and one Samsung in the house. I set them both up with the same HDMI lead (two identical ones) and flicked between channels in HD and SD for a few days (much to my ladies annoyance) and I guarantee you, there is no difference between them in picture quality. Not with colour reproduction, motion blur, sharpness, contrast. Nothing. If there is a difference my mates and I can't detect one. As I said, sad, but this was when the Samsung box was quite new and so we decided to check it out.

Maybe the OP simply was comparing the sharper menus on the Samsung, which scales them properly for 1080p right?

If you want to flick channels, rather than watch anything, then get the one that flicks faster, if you can - but I prefer watching to flicking
I don't generally flick, but the whole slowness of the box just infuriates me, you think you've pressed the button, nothing happens, so you press it again, and go past what you wanted

Anybody know what causes the stb to nearly die in the early hours of the morning? I've had a SA box since spring 2007 and it generally works ok during the day (although it's progressively getting slower over the years and is usually a few steps behind any remote control key presses) but if I've been out of an evening (generally a saturday night, so I'm talking about early sunday morning) and try and do anything, the box is practically unusable. Rebooting does nothing to rectify it. It just hangs, won't change channel, no on-demand will work, etc.

Re: Samsung V+ Box, what a difference!

My SA reboots if I'm recording one HD channel whilst watch a recorded HD programme, knackering the recording.
I've also had it reboot whilst watching an HD recording if I leave the "live" tuner on an HD channel.
When the engineer upgraded my broadband to 50mb last week he said I should have the SA swapped out asap if I'm watching mainly high def. Has anyone with a Samsung had reboots with HD channels? I don't want to have the hassle of changing if the Sammy has similar issues with multiple HD programmes.
Or should I wait for TiVo and a larger disc next year?

The sa shouldn't do that, a hard drive format should be tried first. What makes you think you would get a samsung?

I am getting my SA replaced on Saturday cause of a failed Hard Drive hoping to get a Samsung box. I am all about the responsiveness!
