Which Is The Best and Worst HD Channel?

Based on Picture Quality and Sound

Best : ESPN HD - The Picture Quality does it for me but it was very hard to decide between ESPN HD and Discovery HD.

Worst: BBC and ITV

My view based on actual HD Programming not Upscaled HD.

Re: Which Is The Best and Worst HD Channel ???

Without a doubt I find most of the HD content on National Geographic HD looks best, however it seems to vary a bit on the picture quality of the programme itself.

I don't watch that much of ESPN HD these days, but when I do, i've found that the studio stuff is the only part that comes close to HD for me, but still a big difference over the SD version.

Best - Eurosport HD - There is no real debate on this one
Worst - SKY Sports 1 & 2 - only reason is because with all of SKY's HD programming there is not place for SD programmes on these channels ( had a really bad 4:3 stretched picture of a poker tournament on SSHD2 the other night)

Re: Which Is The Best and Worst HD Channel ???

I personally think BBC HD is one of the better looking channels. Especially when watching wildlife programmes.

I'd say the picture quality on BBC HD is consistently the best. Channel 5 is terrible 24/7! ESPN HD is pretty good too, especially when they are showing live American broadcasts. Basketball, Baseball and Boxing look fantastic.

I think both the picture and audio of BBC HD are good, shame they don't occur in sync though

Re: Which Is The Best and Worst HD Channel ???

I find Eurosport native HD programming to have the best picture quality, but there SD channels are awful.
I have also noted that US import programming has better quality hd pictures than programs produced here.
Was last nights England game on ITV really HD or up scaled? the slow motion pictures had noise and slight pixalation. So at this time I would go with ITV as having the worst at present.

Best Discovery or SS1HD worst ESPN, I really dont know what you are all seeing, most of the US sports are down converted and are nowhere near as good as they should look, trust me the NBA, NHL & MLB dont look anything like they do in the states.

Re: Which Is The Best and Worst HD Channel ???

BBC and ESPN are top this now. Channel 4 isn't to bad when it isnt upscaled.

Out of sync is annoying on bbc though at times. Started watching aloty of the stuff on demand instead.

Red, I do not Know if you are a member of DS, but on reading some of the comments on there http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/s...82617&page=170,
ESPN do have some issues with the quality of there HD feeds and they have admitted so to members. Thought you might be interested.

Thanks I must admit I have not seen any issues but have to agree with early post that native HD on ESPN i.e. US HD is 100% perfect

Re: Which Is The Best and Worst HD Channel ???

For me the best has to be BBC, ESPN, Discovery and Nat-Geo, its hard to say which is the worst as each channel occasionally broadcasts a dodgy looking HD program.
On a plus note folks looking at the thread so far we have a varied selection of HD channels people consider the best, the fact there is no clear winner maybe means that they are all pretty decent.
