TV Not Auto Selecting V+ Box HDMI Input

Have had my first V+ box for just over a week now.

I have not managed to find out how to get my TV to auto switch to the V+ box when I switch it on. My V+ box is connected to TV by HDMI only. I have tried as many settings as I can find but nothing works. My TV is new too (Sony KDL-40EX503).

Is V+ box compatible with auto switching on HDMI?

If I connected Scart lead as well, would this work or would it connect via Scart rather than HDMI?

Anybody any ideas?

Mark

Re: TV Not Auto Selecting V+ Box HDMI Input

I think the problem is that auto switching is not actually part of the HDMI spec, so there is no standard mechanism (Scart uses a signal sent down one of the pins). Manufacturers may implement their own switching mechanism, but that does not mean it will work with equipment from other manufacturers.

Connecting Scart will not work, as the v+ disables the TV scart socket when HDMI is used.

Even if it didn't, the TV would switch to the Scart input when it received the signal, as it would not know to switch to HDMI..

Re: TV Not Auto Selecting V+ Box HDMI Input

I have a blu-ray player in HDMI1 which is supposed to autoswitch. There is also an HDMI2 socket which doesn't, so make sure you are connected via the correct autoswitching HDMI socket.

Now for the curious bit. Ever since I've had the blu-ray player I have had problems with it auto switching on as well as auto switching off back to AV1. Recently I developed various health problems which resulted in a 7 week stay in hospital. I took the opportunity to have a new carpet laid and some decorating done. My son-in law organised everything including the removal and reinstatement of the TV and connected ancillaries. Unfortunately there were connection problems after he reinstalled it. As I am in a wheel chair I enlisted my Daughter's help and for the sake of simplicity disconnected everything and started again from scratch.

Strangely the problem blu-ray player now autoswitches every time and is quicker to boot up than it was before. I have no explanation as I have reconnected the player several times in an effort to rectify the intermittent fault.

After this episode I think that a poor connection on some other lead might lead to a problem with an appliance on a separate connection.

Anyway try disconnecting everything and starting again, maybe it will work for you.

Have tried reconnecting cables and trying a different HDMI socket as suggested but to no avail.

Is this a common problem with the V+ box or is it more dependant on the make and model of the TV that it is connected to?

As Stuart Says, HDMI does not have an inbuilt auto switch facility. You may get that tv to do it with a Sony BluRay player as it has Bravia Sync but I dont know of anything else that will autoswitch.

Just press the favourites button on the remote, it will be listed there - easy peasy.

Re: TV Not Auto Selecting V+ Box HDMI Input

HDMI does have autoswitch facilities but it is not as simple as scart you need to make sure that your TV supports it as well I think most devices with HDMI 1.3 do and to make it even more of a headache all the manufactures have a different name for it, Sony call it Bravia Sync Samsung call it Anynet.

It allows you to control all your HDMI enabled equipment, so you can turn on your TV and control the HDMI equipment with the same remote.

Don't ask me how to turn it on or configure it as I just use a Harmony remote which is far more flexible. If your TV has a HDMI 1.3 it is more then likely has this feature.

Re: TV Not Auto Selecting V+ Box HDMI Input

My tv auto starts on the connection you switched it off on.
Typically this will be the V+ Box but if I had been on the Xbox and then switched off I would have to manually select the correct HDMI.
As people have said there is no auto switching with HDMI

Re: TV Not Auto Selecting V+ Box HDMI Input

As I already stated my Panny Viera has autoswitching on the HDMI 1 socket but not on the HDMI 2 socket. This is corroborated in the manual. There are also option's in the TV's set up menu for "Control by HDMI" and "Start With" which I have set to AV1 as I only have a basic SD Sky+ box.

I not trying to start an argument but it seems some TV's definately have an HDMI autoswitch option but maybe some don't. I've only had experience with the Panny in conjuction with a Sky+ SD box so I am far from an authority on the subject.
