Sky Premium HD & Upscaled Programs

May have fit into another thread but it may be a question that would intrest others.

What are peoples opinions about the quality of the native HD programs, and how well are SD programs upscaled in comparison to what they are on HD boxes anyway?

Re: Sky Premium HD & Upscaled Programs

Sky Movies HD is superb compared to SD, haven't really watched anything on SS HD1 or 2 to make comparison as I'm not a fan of golf or cricket.
Normal SD channels (ITV, C4 etc) are upscaled quite well IMO, but the HD variants do look better, espescially on long shots.
I've found so far that Eurosport HD has one of the best native HD pictures, it really is brilliant compared to the SD channel, which I can't watch properly now as everything looks blurry

I would agree after watching Eurosport in HD the Sd picture is awful . Having said that Eurosport native HD is probably the best picture around.

Re: Sky Premium HD & Upscaled Programs

And Eurosport SD is one of the worst SD pictures around.

I normally put it down to the limitations of the pics they are receiving from the various national broadcasters they buy from. Aside from the Tour I normally only watch the football on Eurosport and it seems unlikely that massive investment is going to go into screening, for instance, the various U16, U17, U19 tournaments that Eurosport show.

However if it's rubbish for the other sports that tend to cover then maybe it's down to Eurosport themselves?

The worst digital programme I watch in relation to picture quality was recently (it was only for 5mins) a BBC red button football match friendly from Ireland, the picture was almost unwatchable. Youtube would have even rejected

Re: Sky Premium HD & Upscaled Programs

For me Eurosport 2 SD is absolutely dire, Eurosport HD screens an excellent picture as does ESPN HD.
Having said this it really depends on the individual program on the HD channels, some are great and some are not so great.

Re: Sky Premium HD & Upscaled Programs

Noticed this morning that SS1 HD was simulcasting SSN in horid stretchy-vision! Has anyone noticed if this is the norm, or was there a technical error this morning?
