Comparing VM costs with Rogers

Rogers are a cable company in Canada who operate in a similar way to Virgin and provide similar products, so it's quite interesting when you compare what we get and what they get for TV services, including HD channels.

Obviously there are many factors to influence costs, but it seems that in rip-off Britain, we're never let down...

Re: Comparing VM costs with Rogers

Did you add the rental charge for the STBs? Another $25 per month for an HD PVR or purchase it.

Re: Comparing VM costs with Rogers

Rogers looks more expensive if you add the $25 a month rental or buy the PVR HD box for $500

Cool thing with Rogers is when you are watching TV and get a phone call the name of the person whos calling pops up on the screen. You can then choose to ignore it or send to voicemail by pressing a button on the remote.

I find that most people always seem to think that the grass is greener on the otherside.

Until they actually read the small print.

Re: Comparing VM costs with Rogers

I may have missed some costs as I did a quick scan over the site at lunch time. There are various packages and options, so quite a lot to add up.

But I particularly liked the bit where they were offering a discount if you traded in your satellite box! Maybe Virgin should do that! Not sure what they'd do with all the boxes - eBay?

I first got Telewest when I traded my Satellite dish and box over 10 years ago , so they have tried it.

Not to mention that the box & remote looks like a prop from an old scifi movie.

Comparing them makes the old SA box look good!

Here's my attempt at a package:

$100.47 for VIP TV
$99.99 for 50meg, 175GB limit and then $0.50 per GB.
$33.95 for home phone with 1000 minutes. (weird)
$49.90 for 2 HD PVRs $24.95 each
$12.95 for 1 HD box
$4.49 for 1 SD box

$301.75 total per month

$301.75 Canadian dollars = £188.49 British pounds sterling
Exchange rate: 0.624649

I pay Virgin £136 per month, or $217.72 CD.
