Re: The iPhone thread

well on the face of it this is the launch of a prize lemon. Apple need to recall the phone address the issues and relaunch a working product imo. They wont though old Mr Jobs proved his stance with the buy a bumper or hold the phone differently release.

It couldn't have anything to do with the left handed signal fault and the other iPhone 4 issues that are beginning to emerge, could it?

No.

It's something to do with potential discolouration of the device which occurred in some Macbooks. The heat on the back of the device after time could cause patches to occur (because the material is dyed white) so they are solving that.

Besides the problems are being exaggerated. The only real one is the signal loss when you cup the device in a certain way (it seems like holding it naturally won't cause it to occur) and a software patch may be able to fix it.

Not really, the reviews have been excellent, the screen is awesome, and they sold millions already. A new definition of epic fail if you ask me.

A full scale recall is a tad excessive, it's not happening on every device by a long way. The ones with the screen issue do need to be recalled but they are being replaced, the reception one may be fixed with a software update as rumours are it's something to do with switching reception bands.

Re: The iPhone thread

I do think that this launch has been bit of a farce from the beginning, certainly in the UK at least (given the lack of information & communication in the run up to the actual Launch Day), even ignoring the "issues" that are occurring.

I still think it's an awesome phone though. Not had any problems with mine, touch wood...

The rumour I read today would suggest that Apple think the problem is that the natural attenuation caused by people holding the phone (which occurs with *all* phones) is made worse by the way the iOS baseband software handles frequency shifting.

Re: The iPhone thread

LOL, interesting timing!

Motorola has used the DeathGrip to help advertise its own Android powered Droid X phone:

http://www.eurodroid.com/2010/06/mot...roid-x-advert/

"And most importantly, it comes with a double antenna design. The kind that allows you to hold the phone any way you like..."

A very thorough review of the iPhone 4 from AnandTech:

With a very interesting page dedicated to the antenna issue...

Re: The iPhone thread

Works fine on my 3gs though a few apps need updating to work - the ITV world cup one didn't work for a couple of days until they updated.
