Re: Formula 1 2010 Season [may contain real time spoilers]
There is a good thread on the James Allen blog about the penalty Schumi has received.
http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/2010/0...egal-overtake/
It seems confusing that although the race was finishing behind the Safety car the green flags were out. Previously when finishing behind the SC the yellow flags stayed out.
Basically Alonso was caught napping by an opportunistic Schumi, no danger as far as I can see as he was past the striken Lotus when he made the pass.

But I thought the race hadn't finish behind the safety car, the safety car came in before the race finished.

The new rules dictate that any race finishing under safety car rules the safety car itself will peel off into the pit lane but the safety car rules will still be in effect..
I think here there were a few things combined that confused people
1# The green lights and removal of the SC boards
2# The lights going off on the safety car
3# The announcement that the safety car coming in but with no announcement that they were still under safety car rules..

Article 40.13 of the Formula 1 sporting regulations states: "If the race ends while the safety car is deployed it will enter the pit lane at the end of the last lap and the cars will take the chequered flag as normal without overtaking."

Re: Formula 1 2010 Season [may contain real time spoilers]
IIRC don't the rules say you can't appeal a 25 second penalty. Didn't that happen to Lewis at Spa in 08 where he got a penalty post race which you can't appeal ?
It's the FIA's \ FOM's fault as they don't want a race to be seen ending under a safety car so created a false situation where it goes in and then they made it worse this year by allowing racing up to the line
McLaren said the same to Lewis that there was no passing aloud

Re: Formula 1 2010 Season [may contain real time spoilers]
Rules and regs and misinterpretations are the bane of racing..
It's the same in other series for example Tom Chiltons exclusion from the 2nd Race at Brands in the BTCC for ride height when the scutineering was actually done BEFORE the race and now the change in rules for smaller turbo restrictors for the LPG fords half way through a season
Dakar has now restricted all motorcycles to 450cc or less..
When will the power mad rule makers stop??

Re: Formula 1 2010 Season [may contain real time spoilers]
Just reading James Allen http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/2010/0...egal-overtake/
And quite interesting it is too, see how it develops.
Quote:
If the race ended under SC conditions then why were there green flags displayed and the SC boards withdrawn by the marshalls. In the ‘09 OzGP the safety car pulled in BUT SC boards and yellow flags were still waved to show the race was still under SC conditions and the safety car only pulled in due to 40.13 (which is not new for 2010). If the race did end when the safety car was deployed then why werent SC boards along with yellow flags shown to indicate this like in 2009? Another seemingly bad decision by the stewards and one that will hang over Hill.

Re: Formula 1 2010 Season [may contain real time spoilers]
a lot of people seem to be blaming Hill over this one and thinking about it i'm not even sure he would be involved in the decision at all. He is there to offer a drivers view of things not to know all the rules and act as chief steward. Surely it would be the other three who are there to decide if the race was green or under yellow and issue the penalty can't see where Hill will come into it

The US Grand Prix will be held at a purpose-built race track in Austin, Texas.

Contract is apparantly from 2012 to 2021. Subject to them actually completing the course on time.
