But they can't do that - it goes against some peoples' prejudices, and may cause them to reconsider their opinions.
That's so unfair!

If Labour had won the most seats - but not a majority - and if the Lib Dem bubble hadn't burst & its wins & vote share had reflected the earlier polls (maybe 100 seats, but with a higher share of the popular vote than Labour), it could perhaps have been conceivable for Clegg to be PM within a Lib-Lab coalition (as Clegg could have been seen to have more of a mandate than Brown).

Could you point out which manifesto promises they have broken, please?
(as I don't remember anything in the manifesto about not raising the basic tax threshold to 10k)

Over 13 years Gordon sold off the best part of our gold reserves for peanuts, raided the pension funds and incurred the massive debts we're all now going to have to pay more tax to repay. He set up the flawed regulatory system which allowed the banks to run riot (and almost bring this country down) and built an economy based on credit. Just before it all went pear shaped and his massively remortaged house of cards collapsed, he doled out knighthoods to Fred the Shred, told the City that he wanted to 'encourage the risk takers' and predicted a 'golden age' for the City of London. In what way is he not culpable for the mess we're in and what now has to be done to stop UK PLC becoming Greece?
If the last Tories were so terrible why did he and Bliar copy so many of their 'flawed' ideas on the economy etc. rather than use their massive majority in successive parliaments to get it right and do it better?..
If you're going to carry on blaming Thatcher et al for all our ills don't get upset if in 2023 the rest of us are still blaming Bliar and Brown for what went wrong on their watch and the tough action that had to be taken to put it right.

I am just surprised it took 3 terms to get the public to realise that.

The Tories in there election will have promised xyz
But as they need the Lib Dems the promised xyz will have to change (may not be by much) but people voted them on the xyz promises.

He could try to go it alone with a minority Government... and would then promptly fail to command the confidence of the House of Commons when the Queen's Speech got voted down due to the Tories not having a majority of seats... causing the Government to fall & a new election to be called.
