It seems to be as I always believed: some sort of accommodation between the Tories and Lib Dems is, and always was, the only game in town. It was always plain that just too many significant Labour figures were set against a deal and only the desperate clique surrounding G. Brown seemed determined to pursue it. Of course, were it not for the frenzied degree of wishful thinking emanating from the BBC, that might have been clearer throughout yesterday's, and this morning's, ongoing political negotiations.

Oh. I agree, and this outcome is definitely the preferred outcome (if only due to the numbers). I'm also hoping that having a coalition will go some way towards reducing the tribal element in British politics. It'll be great to see them work together rather than just slag each other off. If they can manage that, that is....

Wonder how long it will take for Gordon to realise they are in fact applauding his resignation not his achievements...

I truly hope this will happen. It could be a partnership for a long time
You wouldn't see labour back in government for generations.

The irony is, the possibility of perpetual coalition between Labour and the Lib Dems is one of the reasons so many Tories are avidly opposed to electoral reform. There is another reason why the Lib Dems have to be seen to make this work: The Tories need to see that it can work, and it can work with them in power.

Re: 2010 General Election: The Cable Forum Exit Poll
Of course, for a Con/LibDem arrangement to work, 3/4s of the LibDem MPs (57) and 3/4s of the Federal Executive (36) have to agree (so 15 MPs or 9 FedEx's could still scupper the deal).

But it's a Scottish Labour seat - pretty foregone conclusion there, imho.

No they didn't, if they had won they wouldn't have to go grovelling to the Lid Dems

News just in: the final score has just gone up on the board, and Her Brittanic Majesty has just got off the phone with Dave to invite him over for a chat and a possible job offer. Dave, in case you hadn't noticed, is a Tory.
