Windows 7 Settings

I have just had windows 7 installed on old lap top (Dell Latitude D410) and I was expecting to be able to have the task bar show me previews of open windows. But all I seem to able to get is a list of open windows when I pass the pointer over the titles in the task bar. Does anyone know what the settings should be, to be able to get the previews to show?

P.S. I will be out for most of the day, so, apologies if I don't answer any queries until later.

Re: Windows 7 Settings

Try putting aero (you must be using an aero theme) into the search box and click "Find and fix transparency problems and other visual effects".

Select Advanced and you can choose whether to auto repair if possible and possible issues should show up.

p.s. Your Windows Experience Index for Graphics of less than 3 aero will be disabled. There is apparntly a hack available to get it to work but as it`s an old lappie i wouldn`t be to sure. Anyway try running the WEI and update any graphics drivers.

p.p.s. After doing a bit of messing i also noticed that if in Adjust Visual Effects "Enable Desktop Composition" is unticked it also doesn`t work (as it loses aero)!

Re: Windows 7 Settings

I tried the Win7 beta on an old D600 and was surprised how well it ran. However, I could never persuade all the aero functions to work on such old hardware.

Re: Windows 7 Settings

Thanks everyone, having carried out the instructions, so ably provided by Matty, the system did tell me that I have not got a graphics card powerful enough to support the previews.
