Re: 2010 General Election: The Cable Forum Exit Poll

But does sound like there are going to be a few legal challenges. Some polling stations run out of ballot papers. Some have incorrect electoral roll lists.

Got a feeling this will drag on for a while like in the US in 2000.

However, some people were apparently queueing for up to three hours, so you can't blame them for being late to the polling station. It's also not the fault of voters if the polling station runs out of ballot papers, or only has one person handing ballot papers out, etc. One news item mentioned somewhere (Sheffield?) where lots of students were trying to vote, without polling cards, which then slowed it down for everyone else, causing people who did have polling cards to lose their chance to vote due to the delays.
Fair point. If you have not got your card, back of the line. It's not like this was called yesterday... Jeez me and the mrs had to go through the paperwork to register etc so we got our cards and kept them safe. Stoodents eh

Running out of ballot papers, well, who would have thunk it? Lots of people coming out to voice an opinion. They should have thought about that on granted.

But. If they were that hell bent, the polling stations were open at 0700 and there was the option of postal / proxy voting.

No excuse imo, flame me.

The Electoral Commission says it will conduct a "thorough review" of the polling problems.

Re: 2010 General Election: The Cable Forum Exit Poll

If Brown hangs on despite the Tories being only 10 or so seats of a majority then it would be amazing and discredit our stupid system.

Let's hope it is robust.

Re: 2010 General Election: The Cable Forum Exit Poll

They say they've ran out of ballot papers in some areas, but would you not think that they'd try and have the same amount of ballot papers as those who were sent a card. If you know what I mean...

"I got there at 6pm, & there was a queue. I came back at 7pm & there was a queue. I came back at 8pm & there was a queue...then I got turned away when it hit 10pm".

Why not join the queue the first time eh?

Re: 2010 General Election: The Cable Forum Exit Poll

Can't believe that woman on tv. She went at 6, saw a queue and left. Came back at 7, saw a queue and left. Came back at 9:15 and decided finally to queue and then was locked out. Now she's moaning about not being able to vote. Why not queue at 6pm and vote you silly woman. I went to my polling station at lunchtime (12 noon) and would have queued if there had been one.

Re: 2010 General Election: The Cable Forum Exit Poll

I like where Labour say "they may challenge the results".

basically if the Tories win, they will. If they don't, they won't.
