Splitting is an inevitable consequence of making progress. Without splitting you'd have had no digital TV, no VOD, no PVR, no HD...

At the moment no, Sky Sports, Sky1 and some other HD channels are on VM top priority list.
But if VM manage to convert Virgin 1, Bravo and Good Food into HD channels and add the very poplar Living HD, this will give VM more bargaining power to get other HD channels from Sky.
As you know Sky want to get to 50 HD channels by end of the year, in doing this the likes of Sky2 and Sky Sports News etc will be converted to HD.
VM have scrapped the UKTV/VM TV Channel sale and are looking to do the same.
Other rumours are Virgin are looking into a Virgin News Channel which will get both SD/HD treatment.

If there is the be a VM News channel, it would have to be ITN driven. Not that that's a bad thing, just ironic that we could be in exactly the same place as we were 10 years ago with ITN News Channel.

Yes ITN produces content for www.virginmedia.com.

How on earth do they think the SA V+ box can run tivo is truely mad. The box is slow as it is.
They should really replace all the V+ boxes as people payed a premium, but we all know that is very unlikely to happen. I predict lots of people will report of their V+ breaking down in the coming months when the new box is announced.

I can see VM doing HD versions of their other channels... LIVING HD is very successful.
I very much doubt a VM News channel TBH... VM have already said in the past that it would be too expensive to produce and there are already enough news channels.

all you will get offered is a direct replacement for another V+ box, a V HD box that are TiVO capable or to pay another premium to get the TiVO PVR box.
i do agree that all us who paid a premium for V+ should be offered some sort of discounted upgrade package but thinking logically i doubt we will as its from the early migrators to new techonlogy that VM will make the most money and afterall VM are all about making money.
i personally would love to have a TiVO box or or close to release but after paying £150 for my V+ box (over 2 years ago) i wont be paying another £150+ again in a hurry.
what is annoying is the fact the cheap V HD box is capable of running the TiVO EPG which means the premium customers have paid a pretty penny for a V+ box that is end of life and has no upgrade path where the standard non premium customers who spend less money in general and as such VM dont profit as much from have an upgrade path (should VM choose to use it) should VM choose to use it.

It's worth remembering though, that the V-HD boxes wont be able to record anything, so it's just the EPG they will be getting. also to get the full use of HD channels, customers with V-HD need to be on XL TV.
The V-HD boxes will become the standard box at some point too.
It would be a good idea for VM to offer a good deal to V+ users to upgrade to TIVO as they tend to be higher value customers, I agree.

Bravo still exists? I rarely venture out of my BBC HD bubble but I can't say I've noticed Bravo on the EPG in years. I guess I should look a bit harder. Do they still just show re-runs of Takeshi's Castle all day long?
Film 4 HD would have been nice if the channel hadn't sold out so much in the past few years and waste so much of it's time on mainstream dreck. It used to show interesting films which the likes of Sky wouldn't touch. No longer.
So for me I just want Sky One HD and History HD. That way I can get my fix of Lost, Fringe, House, and 24 in HD, and more quality docus in HD. I guess Discovery HD might be nice too, but as I'm one of the many not deemed worthy of the last round of new channels I couldn't say.
Not sure bringing politics in here is a good idea, it won't end well. Probably like this election.
