Re: Sky Sports HD 1 & 2 CONFIRMED for Virgin TV
true Sky also have an extra 23 games from next season so may have to shift them onto another station, at least that will be their excuse, would hope red button was involved in this deal it may just be that the reporters of the story felt it was more important to reveal that yes VM are getting SS1/2HD, I mean 12 months ago wait 12 weeks ago, that was something we probably thought we'd never see.

Re: Sky Sports HD 1 & 2 CONFIRMED for Virgin TV
Excellent news to me.
One of the early SKY HD subscribers, because I wanted the footie in HD but I had to end the subs due to a dispute with them. Got V+ HD Box several months back, and already take SSportsbut due to lack of SSHD was going to try and resolve Sky dispute...but this means I no longer have to. Discovery HD, NatG HD, and now SSHD, what more could I need. Fantastic news. Just wondering about how the pricing will work..shouldn't add too much I wouldn't have thought

That's not really an excuse when the games are never at the same time though.
The PL is their biggest revenue generator, there's no way they could ever justify shifting it to SS3 or 4.

You would hope that it will be for all the Sky Sports channels, you would think that Sky would like to show that they play fair over the next year while their appeal goes on to show them in a good light.
Digital Fanatic do you know what time scale we are looking at here?

So would imagine that the 3D matches being aired over Sky HD will also be viewable via Virgin too?

Re: Sky Sports HD 1 & 2 CONFIRMED for Virgin TV
I am guessing that will air on a special 3D channel which again would need a carriage deal. Seeing as 3D TVs have only just been released and are a tad more expensive I wonder if Sky will be more willing to share to get more viewers.

Not a chance - this would result in VM paying a large prem price.
The only way would be Sky to provide 3D via Sky Box Office - at a prem of £15/£20 Per Match.
VM have already said it would provide 3D on demand @ the ideal home this year.
ESPN are also looking to provide Football & Rugby in 3D but it seems they are waiting for the World Cup results i.e. ESPN will show 25 2010 FIFA World Cup matches in 3D in the US, results from this will determine if ESPN EMEA will also offer 3D within the UK - we may get something towards the end of the 2010/11 season and start if 2011/2012.
BBC & ITV are also looking to join forces around 3D in time for the 2012 Olympics

Re: Sky Sports HD 1 & 2 CONFIRMED for Virgin TV
I reckon this will be free to XL customers too, Virgin have gone all out to their credit saying Amazing HD at no extra cost, I do feel it will coincide with Sky dropping their sub for HD, Hd is now pretty much the standard, and shouldn't come at a premium.

Re: Sky Sports HD 1 & 2 CONFIRMED for Virgin TV
To be honest i am taking all of this with a pinch of salt.
Its obvious that sky have a cop out here and will just shift the premium sporting events on to 3 and 4. Then it will take years again to force that through the system. Sky are devious and you can imagine the sniggering that went on in their board room when they discovered that Ofcom had buggered it up again.
Sky will always be one step ahead of ofcom simply because of how long ofcom take to deal with anything, Sky just wait to see which way the wind is blowing and then makes sure they have a contingency plan in place to deal with it

If you read the OFCOM review they have actually addressed this, they actually made a point in the review saying should sky do this additional channels WILL bee addedd to the must offer clause WITHOUT needing another review
