Quiet agree Mikey, I watched King Kong the other night and the quality was far better than the BBC HD offerings.

i dunno the few football matches that have been on BBC HD have been pretty good in terms of picture quality much better than ESPN. ive also noticed that the ITV HD picture quality is pretty awesome especially with HD content, SD upscaling is non too shabby either.
Eurosport has proved to be awesome picture quality wise eapecially with HD content (with the native HD logo showing) and is some of the best HD content ive seen (bar Bluray).
ESPN HD seems like its doing nothing but upscaling even the so called HD content looks a little below par in terms of crispness and overall image quality
the best of the bunch and the benchmark to beat is Discovery HD. up to now all the content showed is HD and it all looks stunning. i dont know what Discovery HD are showing but its the best HD channel there is in terms of image quality.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010)
I have found the itvhd upscaling to be poor tbh, agree on ESPNHD it looked amazing for the first few EPL/SPL games but has gone worse as the season has gone on, not been upgraded to NGTV yet so no comment on the other channels but glad to see the look good, hopefully not long to go before I see them.

Have a look at ESPN HD of US sports, that is simply staggering. They have of course been filming in HD for a decade now over there so their production is going to far superior. The football in ESPN does seem to vary for EPL, sometime it looks very good and sometimes it is meh.
Lets hope the South Africans know what they are doing with the host HD feed come the World Cup.

A poster on DS has said that in the lastest issue of What Hi Fi, FiveHD is launching on Sky in July and may come to cable too. Not seen the article myself, so cannot confirm whether this is true or not.

The What HiFi article can be seen here but there is no mention of the possibility of FiveHD coming to VM.

That is an article from the news section of their website Jo. Maybe the article in the magazine is worded differently?
Anyway, I suppose it is all speculation until something is officially announced.

Agreed. Would be nice to have it though, I just didn't want people to think it was a done deal just because it had been mentioned on DS. I put my faith in MB and his merry band any day.

Hopefully VM will do a deal b4,But i suspect that is going to be unlikely. They have never managed to get Five demand yet,Think five would be glad of the extra income or is it VM just aint interested.

i have ive watched MLB, CFB, basketball and ice hockey and personally only the MLB has really impressed me. the basketball and CFB looks HD but is not good in terms of image quality and ice hockey you see so little that to be honest its not worth HD coverage (due to the cameta being so far away from the action) and i love ice hockey.
personaly the best native resolution sports comes from Eurosport as proved over the weekend the showjumping, weightlifing and curling looks stunning but its just a shame that they are minority sports. next sunday the live le-Mans is on and is HD so that shoeld be awesome.
ESPN HD looked great as we had nothing really to compare it to now we have itv HD (football) and Eurosport HD and its pretty clear even from the limited HD native sports on both that ESPN are doing a **** poor job in terms of HD picture quality.

that probably the reason why its pretty poor then in terms of image quality lol.
seriously though dont get me wrong its great to have ESPN HD and until we had nothing to compare it with we were happy and content but now Eurosport HD has proved how HD sports coverage should look in terms of HD image quality in the week we have had it.
ESPN just looks way too soft with a lack of image clarity on all their HD content. its like they are using a blur effect or something to soften the overall image.

ESPN and Sky have a strange relationship... they are in competition for sports rights, yet Sky manage their sales and subsciptions on satellite in the UK and they also film their HD output for Prem Footy.
Hasn't anyone learned from the doomed TIVO/Sky tie-up years ago?
