Once you've 'installed' the hardware you have into the web interface, it's fairly straightforward. To prgram and activity, the web based interface simply asks a lot of questions about what inputs and outputs you want to use, how you want to control the volume, etc. (I have a TV, DVD player, V+ and surround system, all from different manufacturers)

The only problems I had were programming a 'V+' button on the soft screen and setting the inputs on the TV. My TV is a Toshiba and it has to cycle through the inputs when you change video source. Once programmed and using the remote, you have to be quite patient to let the remote cycle through the sources until it finds the one you want otherwise you end up on a SCART TV input when you wanted HDMI or something. If your TV has discrete buttons for each input, then you'll be sorted.

By they way, the Harmony support group are completely separate from the rest of Logitechs support and I've only heard good things about them, even to the point of them writing remote control macros for you

Can I add another vote for the Harmony - I have the 555 and it works on everything apart from my PS3

I love the web based programming!

I have a Harmony 785 it is great. That said, the first two I bought were faulty and each had to be returned.

Re: Universal Remote that works with V+

I'll recommend the Harmony 555 too. It was £40 on amazon a while back.

I find the web based programming fine and the only annoying bit is the fact the colour buttons are right at the bottom rather than near the d-pad.

The 885 is better in positioning these but the charging seems to be an issue so I went with the 555 which takes normal batteries.

Re: Universal Remote that works with V+

Sorry to dig up an old thread.

I've been looking at the Harmony 555 remote too and have heard some good reviews. I've googled the details but still have some questions.

How many buttons can you program on the screen? I believe it scrolls through 4 buttons at a time, just wondered how many pages.

Is it compatible with the Microsoft media centre remote? I Have checked their web site and it seems to want you to put a computer make and model in which is pointless when it is self built and doesn't have a make and model as such.
TBH I only use the standard play, stop, FWD etc buttons as well as the D-pad so hopefully it should do that basic stuff even if I have to 'teach' it

Thanks in advance

I have a Logitech Harmony 1000 (touchscreen version) - operates the V+ (both the old SA & new Samsung version) - once you get the hang of the progaming it's ok. I did have an issue with the interactive buttons (which are on the touchscreen) however the tech support were excellent and solved it within 24 hours. I especially like the facility to press one icon which switches on the TV & V+ box at the same time - you could even set it to select a preset channel at startup if you want.

Another vote for the Harmony 525. It works all my units, TV, DVD, Amp and V+. Never given any trouble. As for pages, I think the Sony Amp has the most with 14 pages of button selection, with 4 buttons per page. It really is a great piece of kit.

Re: Universal Remote that works with V+

I've been tempted by the Harmony 515 or 525 but they're a bit pricey.

This recently released remote seems interesting for the price if it supports the V+

Re: Universal Remote that works with V+

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I have taken the plunge and ordered it so it should be with me this week.

As for price I found it on Dixons and amazon for £45 so quite reasonable I guess.

Re: Universal Remote that works with V+

In case anyone is interested the Logitech Harmony 555 works perfectly with the V+ Box

It only took about 20 minutes to perform a basic set up but a good while longer to look through all the settings and see what can and can't be done.

One word of advice if you do get one is that when asked the make and model of your STB, just put VirginMedia V+ and not Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300 (As written on the box) otherwise you will see a lot of buttons on the screen that do not make sense. I'm guessing its based on the US version of the box.

Thoroughly pleased with my purchase and for £45 you can't go wrong.

PS. It even replaces my Media Centre Remote!

I have set the back button as 'Prev' on the Harmony remote but you can put it on the screen if you wish, its entirely up to you how you program it.

I hadn't even noticed that Prev button. However, what I really meant is what does it get set to by default

From memory I think the back button gets put on the screen by default.
