iPhone 3Gs, Nokia N900, Blackberry Bold 9700, you choose.

Just been offered a phone upgrade, narrowed it down to one of the above.

I currently have a Nokia N95 8GB. It works perfectly and has a much better camera than either the iPhone or the Blackberry, also surprised to find the iPhone has no inbuilt flash.

I do use the camera quite a lot at work for taking pics of circuit boards and other components before I remove all the wires, also take pics for parts indentification.

That apart I am open to opinions, suggestions or any other recommendations.

I like the N95 but want a slightly bigger screen.

Jim.

PS. The Blackberry offer comes with a free notebook PC

Re: iPhone 3Gs, Nokia N900, Blackberry Bold 9700, you choose.

you should have added a poll. iPhone. you won't be disappointed.

remember that first and foremost, you are buying into a mobile phone, not a camera. although useful, if you truly want good photos, use a dedicated camera.

Re: iPhone 3Gs, Nokia N900, Blackberry Bold 9700, you choose.

I know it's only a rumour but I saw this article that the iPhone 4 is going to have a flash for
the camera and possibly out in April (though you could be waiting for ever)

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/01...one_4g_rumors/

Usually iPhones are updated June/July time

if you mean file transfer? - no - unless you Jailbrake it and install iBlueNova

However - depending on the BootRom - it will only be a thered jailbrake

Re: iPhone 3Gs, Nokia N900, Blackberry Bold 9700, you choose.

There is one thing I like about the iphone, it's multitouch screen. And many things I dislike, lack of bluetooth obex, inability to easily transfer music etc back off the iphone once it's on there, the lack of a user changeable battery, lack of a decent complete bluetooth stack, it's horrendous boot time which makes windows mobile look speedy, the fact that all apps on the phone have to be obtained through the apple store, unless you hack the device. The lack of even a haptic response to a screen tap, etc etc...

I have seen all 3 generations of iphone, and tried them out, and I still wouldn't have one.

Re: iPhone 3Gs, Nokia N900, Blackberry Bold 9700, you choose.

I have an iPhone 3G at the moment (though I don't use the camera much). I like the software and user interaction on the device, and the battery life seems to get better every software update...

There are some bad things, like Lord Nikon says, no object/file transfer via bluetooth is a real downer, and its painfully slow at boot time.

I do however like using the Internet on the phone and its really my main use for the device, both via 3G and my home WiFi. Its simple to use for a quick Wikipedia/Google instead of having to wait for the laptop to boot up.

I don't think I'd buy another though, simply because I have big fingers and the virtual keyboard isn't for me...I prefer a proper hardware keyboard (I've looked at the N900 and I'm tempted...would have to look at the size of the keys first though).

Re: iPhone 3Gs, Nokia N900, Blackberry Bold 9700, you choose.

Thanks for all the replies so far folks. I'm leaning towards the N900 or possibly the Nokia X6.

No comments about the Blackberry Bold 9700 yet?

I do have a digital camera (CanonPower Shot 80) that is small enough to carry with me if needed, don't think my EOS450D will slip into the toolbag that easily though.

A decent keypad is just winning out against a touchscreen in my thoughts as well.

Jim.

Re: iPhone 3Gs, Nokia N900, Blackberry Bold 9700, you choose.

Just to put this one to bed, had a close look at all three, liked the Blackberry keypad but screen a bit small.

Eventually got the Nokia N900, good sized screen, proper keypad and decent camera with flash. Paying same tarriff and it includes unlimited internet.

I don't know about you but I do love playing with new gadgets.

Thanks again for all the replies.

Jim.
