no he said he knew of a channel didnt say it would be annouced he jsut expeced it would be

I guess the likelyhood now is that no channel is being announced. I do find it odd they wouldn't use the results day to highlight more HD at least one or 2 new channels in the "raft" of them which are coming...... soon.....

Yes i appreciate that, it just seems odd they wouldn't make any channel annoucements on a day like this...seems a good time to do it.

When they announced Eusropsort HD it was one of many that would be coming, suggesting deals had pretty much been done. I would have expected new announcements today - it didn't happen... meh!

Over the years ive seen quite a few ODD virgin marketing ideas so im not surprised at anything these days.
Only in recent weeks have i seen an improvement in how soon after press releases they tell thier customers of channel changes.

To be honest i think vm are going to probably wait as regards more HD until ofcoms pay tv enquirey report due in march 2010 is published,depnding on the report it MAY recommend the wholesaling of some sky premiums at regulated prices ie sport/movie HD this enquirey has been rumbling on since 2007.

Vm could then build a package around these premium channels,and remarks made in previous years suggest Neil Berkett is keen to do that.

Therefore i believe people were probably hoping for too much today as more HD eurosport was only announced barely two weeks ago,my personal view is much will depend on ofcoms final conclusion.

And the fact apparently that sky have some sort of deal with a lot of the remaining HD channels, ie they help them set up with cash in return for some sort of exclusivity on the satellite platform for a period of time much discussed on various platforms.

If thats the cae richard, which i dont think it it, then what on earth are VM doing announcing forethcoming "raft" of new HD channels??

In my years with NTL/VM Mobes, what they say and what is actually delivered in the short term are two different things (usually coming soon),sometimes an announcement may be much more an aspiration!

All i am saying is yes i think more HD is on its way,but i am also saying vm may not want to announce more until the pay tv enquirey has reported,if it goes in vms favour,that would act as some kind of springboard and also have vm building maybe completely new packages around it.

All pure speculation of course but the pay tv enquirey marathon is due to end in march,so possibly not long to find out.

Of course if it goes against vm and some of the others companies notably BT i think the drip feed of new HD channels would continue at the pace it is now.

Isn't the one thing holding up ANY announcement of new HD channels the actual technical infrastructure being put in place?

They haven't even completely turned off analogue in most areas yet.

You can't launch HD channels that only a portion of the customers can actually get.

I reckon they are fast approaching the limit of HD channels they can currently launch before ALL the work that is needed to be done is completed.

Personally i think the next channel will be ITV1HD but that is dependent on ITV getting their act together rather then Virgin.

No I said yesterday that there WAS the rumour in Virgin HQ that Virgin Media Bosses may give out info on New Channels today.
