Vue and Odeon not Airing Alice In Wonderland
Due to an arguement with disney
Disney wanted to be able to release the dvd 12 weeks after the cinema release instead of the normal 17. UK cinemas refused to accept this. This also happen pre xmas with Christmas Carol but Disney backed down.
Cineworld Vue and Odeon all agreed to boycott the film. Disney however changed it to 13 weeks and Cineworld agreed that was good enough. But it still means a good portion of cinemas will not have it on unless something changes ...

it also looks like the yanks are picking up on it as well as the Netherlands

Re: Vue and Odeon not Airing Alice In Wonderland
Several years ago we had both a 6 screen cinewold, and a 3 screen odeon.
But odeon closed , a local business man wanted to re-open it, but because he owned a "lapdancing" type club and a arcade, plus he had disagreements with the local council they blocked his request, so its been empty for about 3 years.

We can all do that but you need a cinema for a 3D screening.

I doubt they will lose a fortune, its just one film, and I not the most popular either.
As for 3D, most people I know have tried it and arent that impressed, so they wont be that sad to miss it in 3D.

Re: Vue and Odeon not Airing Alice In Wonderland
Avatar on average in the UK took 8 grand a day per screen (weekends) even now 9 weeks in the average per day is 3 grand+
Funny also how Avatar in 9 weeks has left Titanic in its wake(pun intended ) strange for a film in 3D which most people you know have tried it and are not impressed eh

Hype has a lot to do with that..
And yes, I have seen a few 3d films (all at the BFI IMAX) and I do think the 3D works well.

Re: Vue and Odeon not Airing Alice In Wonderland
A hell of a lot of people have returned to the cinema and watched it more than once.
Just look at the 8.5 with nearly 195000 voters on imdb to see that its liked
I agree ive seen a few 3D films and they have all worked well in 3D even if the film aint been that good ie Monsters VS Aliens lol
---------- Post added at 21:23 ---------- Previous post was at 21:19 ----------
UP is 35th in the charts with a gross global taking of over 727 million .
I stand by what I say by thinking VUE and Odeon will lose a hell of a lot of income.
Thing is with 3D people will go to see it in 3D whether the dvd date is 4 weeks early or not.Its a rediculas stand that does not stand to arguement

Re: Vue and Odeon not Airing Alice In Wonderland
surely 13 weeks of takings is better than the cutting-the-nose-off-to-spite-the-face 0 weeks of takings? oh well - guess that's why I'm not a businessman!!!

Re: Vue and Odeon not Airing Alice In Wonderland
Cinema boycott threatens 'Alice'
http://uk.movies.yahoo.com/blog/arti...ens-alice.html
I'm guessing Disney thinking a quicker DVD release will stop downloading?
I'm looking forward to seeing this in 3d at the cinema, I hope my local Picture House doesn't join Odeon, Vue with a boycott, but I don't know if they can do 3d
There's a Cineworld near me to, which does 3d, so I'm glad they're not joining the boycott now. When I read the initial story last week, they were going to as well. Guess they realised that's cutting off your nose to spite your face.
It's odd though, years ago I'm sure cinemas would never do anything to annoy the mighty Disney, and I would have thought these days where the cinemas are moaning about people illegally downloading, not going to the cinema etc they'd want to show 3D films more

Apparently their concern is not so much Alice in Wonderland, more that they'll do it for future releases.

In the meantime, Disney are willing to wind up two major cinema chains over 4 weeks takings.
